Strip On by G. E. Designs

**This giveaway is now closed!! Thanks for playing :)**

This has been a busy year for Gudrun Erla — fabric designing, travelling, teaching, blog hopping — but today she’s with us to talk about her latest book, Strip On. Known especially for her ever-expanding repertoire of G.E. Designs “strip” patterns, Strip On really shows the endless possibilities of 1 1/2″ and 2 1/2″ strips with gorgeous results! Gudrun has generously given us 2 copies of the book to give away, so read all the way through to see how you can win! Also, she and several other quilt designers are kicking off their Cross Country Christmas Blog Hop today with a darling little game of “guess-who”!

Hi Jolly Jabbers!

It’s great to be back at the Jolly Jabber to blog about my brand new book, Strip On. The book was really inspired from my collection of strips that has been growing for years. Before they sold the fabulous strip collections I used to cut all my leftover fabric from projects into strips of different widths and store them in containers. Now I have some wonderful bundles of strips added to my collection in the form of Jelly Rolls, Honey Buns, Sushi Rolls and so on. I decided to use two common sizes of strips for this book, 2-1/2” strips and 1-1/2” strips.

There are 10 quilts in the book and most of them include various sizes so that you can make a quilt to fit any bed or occasion. Here are some of the quilts in the book.

On the cover (shown at the very top) we have a quilt called Criss Cross Double Toss. This quilt is made from my new fabric line called Olivia that will be in stores early 2010. This is a quilt with lots of visual impact and goes together quickly with the big blocks. It’s a perfect combination with scrappy blocks paired with the perfect large scale print.

On the back cover is a fun and simple quilt called Steamy Windows. I used the Authentic fabric line by Sweetwater for the lap size quilt. Included in the book are instructions on how to create some bonus project with the leftovers, like the table runner.

Rocky Road is a simple vertical row quilt made from 2-1/2” strips. I used a new line by Blackbird Designs called Old Primrose Inn. The smaller quilt is Criss Cross Applesauce and is made from 1-1/2” strips.

Milky Way is a great stash buster. All you need is 46 assorted strips and some contrasting fabric for the stars to make this scrappy lap quilt. It was fun to stay with a color scheme on both quilts and not focusing on fabric lines. I used browns, greens and oranges for the fall colored quilt and pink, rose, aqua and light green for my spring version.

I love the crispness and clean lines of Angler’s Choice. I used a Mint Chip Bali Pop for the lap size shown on the dock and Hushabye by Tula Pink for the crib size quilt pictured by Devil’s Tower with my kids as props 🙂 This quilt is a must if you have a fishing guru in the family.

There are 3 more quilts in the book. If you want a peak at them, hop on over to my blog and check them out. I hope you enjoyed peeking through the pages of my new book and feel inspired to dance your way into the sewing room and STRIP ON!!:-) Tell us which quilt you would tackle first and you can win your very own copy of the book!!

  1. Oh I would just love to win this…I cannot wait for the blog hop projects to start. I am really hoping for some projects I can make en masse with no time!

  2. I love all the quilts pictured but stars are my favorite blocks, so I would say Milky Way is the one I would try first! And the fact that it is scrappy is another plus!

  3. The first quilt I would like to make is Strippers on Wheels. Followed by Twirl Me Too. The quilts look great. Would love to have a copy of the book!

  4. I'd go for either the Milky Way or the Steamy Windows (great names, by the way!). I need to put that book on my xmas wish list…

  5. I'm going to be really boring and say Steamy Windows. I really love the Authentic fabrics and while I loved the table runner when I saw it, I really, really love the quilt. This book is a must have as there are several other 'must do' projects that are pretty much idiot proof (with me being the idiot!)

  6. I love the Angler's Choice & Milky Way quilt. Sorry, I just couldn't choose one!! I have quite the strip collection too so could really use this book in my quilting reference shelf ( I promise to love, cherish and use it!! ;-0 )

  7. I love both the steamy windows or that angler quilt! I really hope I win cause I was just thinking that I needed some new jelly roll patterns!

  8. Gosh, it is a toss up between Milky Way and Rocky Road for me. I am so glad this book is out–I work mainly with strips and love to have new patterns!

  9. I love them all, but I would definitely choose "Criss Cross Double Toss" to make first. I need a big throw to wrap up in this winter against the heavy toll the cold takes on me. The colors are perfect and I adore the block design.

  10. Steamy Windows looks terrific – well, they all do really but I think I'd start with this one. Thanks for your generosity and all the best to you….piece.

  11. I think your quilts are great. I would probably make the cover quilt first, although Twirl Me is a close second. Looks like a great book and I too have tons of strip rolls all sizes. I'd love to win!

  12. I'm only new to quilting and just love "Steamy Windows". So modern, perfect design to make for my daughter. I know she would love it. Just browsing through the book would be so inspiring!

  13. I would have to make Milky Way first because I love it's dramatic impact. But I've been cutting my leftover fabric into strips for a while now so I'd probably end up making them all!

  14. You have put together a wonderful batch of patterns. I think Milky Way is my favorite because it is so different. Hope I win! And thank you for offering this!

  15. It's a toss up between Milky Way and
    Angler's Choice.
Jelly Rolls and Honey Buns are the best thing since sliced bread! I love them!

  16. My first choice would be Criss Cross Double Cross, and I even have some fabrics in mind. This book is on my 'must have' list.

  17. Hi,
If I win the book the first quilt I'd make would be Milky Way and as soon as that one is finished I'd make Angler's Choice.

  18. Oh, I'd love to win that book! The first one I'd make would be Milky way, I think, or possibly Criss Cross Applesauce. The quilts are so cleverly named.

  19. Congrats on your new book! All the quilts are beautiful, but I think I'd make Rocky Road first. It looks like it would be a great guy quilt and I know a special guy who would love it.

  20. The moment I saw the cover quilt, Criss Cross Double Toss, it was a winner. There is not a bad quilt in the book though, but the cover definitely caught my eye! Thank you for doing patterns with Honey Buns as well!
Thank you for the chance to win the new book, and looking forward to the blog hop.

  21. I love the Criss Cross Double Toss. Every time I see another project made up in Authentic, it makes me like the line more and more. Hmmm, may have to buy some more and more.

  22. I love the Steamy Windows quilt, the Authentic by Sweetwater really makes it pop and I would love to make one. Thanks for the chance to win.

  23. I have two that I am having trouble decieding which one I would do first. Steamy windows and Angler's Choice. Looks like an awesome book.

  24. I absolutely LOVE Steamy Windows…the colours, design and size – It would be perfect for my new 'Theatre Room' (in Australia) – and a lovely weight for our cool Summer nights.

  25. Oh Gudrun all of the quilts are really nice but I think I would love to make the "Steamy Windows first…It is different and I have someone in mind for it who would love it…Thanks for the chance and good luck with your book.

  26. They all look great but I think Criss Cross Applesauce is the one I'd like to try. Applesauce is a winner in our family any way you fix it!

  27. I just love the Milky Way pattern. It just comes alive. I can see the kids fighting over it, and yes I mean grown kids.

ah! Which one to choose, which one to choose…
All of the above! I really need more time till Christmas. Maybe 2010..

  29. I love all the quilts, so it's really hard to choose just one. However, I really like Angler's Choice. It's different looking and so pretty.

Thanks for giving us a chance to win a book!
