As quilters, one thing we never run out of is scraps. The leftover fabric from our projects piles up in our stashes and deciding how to use it all can be challenging. The FREE Star Streams Scrap Quilt Pattern is a great way to use leftover fabrics from your quilt projects to make a new quilt!
For the past few years, I’ve challenged myself to reduce fabric waste by using scraps from my quilts. Last year, I made the Brick House Quilt.
My 2023 Star Streams Scrap Quilt
For my 2023 challenge, I plan to use the FREE Star Streams Scrap Quilt Pattern. I sew dozens of quilts each year for work and family, and using scraps for new projects like this helps me remember everything I’ve sewn that year.
Supplies
The pattern is written for traditional piecing, and I’ve listed the optional foundation paper below. These are the supplies I plan to start with:
- FREE Star Streams Scrap Quilt Downloadable PDF Pattern by Fat Quarter Shop
- 2″ Half Square Triangle Paper
- 1″ Half Square Triangle Paper
- 4″ Square in a Square Quilt Block Foundation Paper
In 2023, I’ll be sewing as I gather enough scraps from my other projects throughout the year, I’ll share Livestream updates on the Fat Quarter Shop YouTube Channel. If you want to join me in sewing up your scraps this year, I would love to see you try it! I’ll share my progress on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #StarStreamsQuilt, and I hope you will, too!
Happy Quilting!

I’ll be sewing up my scraps with you and the crew!
I love it Kimberley and I’ll be sewing along as well. I’m still making the brick house blocks – I think I have about 30 of them. Thanks so much for another great scrap project.
This quilt will go into my to-do pile as I have plenty of Lori Holt fabric that I need to use which is my goal for the quilts I do for Christmas for my family.
I enjoy FQS tutorials, I have learned a lot. My quilting has really improved. I made the Brick House scrap quilt this past year really enjoyed it.
I’m going to use this pattern as a leader/ender project. It will be very scrappy!
