Sewing Bags with Kraft-tex

Hey bag makers!  There is a completely new material for you to play with that is easy to sew with, easy to wash, sturdy AND makes a splashy fashion statement.  And…it’s paper.  Yes, paper!  It’s called Kraft-Tex, and you need to immediately prepare a bin to collect all the colors!  Kraft-Tex Designer Paper Fabric is perfect for sewing, embellishing, embroidery and adding texture. It’s machine washable, virtually indestructible, and comes in an assortment of awesome colors.  This sturdy material has a vegan leather texture and gives structure and weight to bags and wallets.

For quick project ideas with Kraft-Tex, check out this new book Sew kraft-tex Bags Book by Betsy La Honta and Gailen Runge. In the book are 17 bag, purse and wallet projects from top designers, reimagined in kraft-tex. The book includes tips and techniques for getting the best results from this vegan leather.

Kraft-tex comes in rolls that measure 18.5″ x 28.5″, allowing you to make multiple projects. For a little more variety, you can also find kraft-tex in sampler packs of  8.5″ x 11″ prewashed sheets. There are many types and colors to suit various projects.

Read on to see some of the projects featured in the book and a special offer for you!

Purses and Bags Made with Kraft-tex and Fabric

Kraft-tex comes in a range of brights and neutrals. Using the bright colors for the Stem Messenger Bag (left) makes the leaves pop off of the canvas background. Sew cute! The Elva Bag (right) is the perfect hobo bag that can be dressed up with your favorite fabrics. The Kraft Paper details give it nice contrast and durability.

All the projects in the book use a combination of fabric and kraft-tex for the right amount of beauty and utility. The Hanna Picnic Basket (in front), is big enough for an entire feast outdoors. The inner pouch cinches up so you don’t lose anything on the way to the park. The Miranda Bag (left) is a fun bag with some serious storage ability! Stripes take center stage on the Tailynn Bag, the perfect tote to carry to school or work.

These little projects pack a big punch! The Betty Pouch (top left) keeps little items under wraps. The A Simple Tool and Pencil Roll (bottom right) makes for an elegant gift for the artist or crafter in your life. Weaving strips of kraft-tex makes an interesting affect for the Betty Wallet.

  1. So, for the Patchwork Pinwheels, I mistakenly ordered the H-200 rather than H-100. Do you have any free quilt patterns for the scads of 4 1/2″ little blocks I now have?
    Thanks “SEW” much!
