Sandy Gervais has thrown us into summer with her sunny new line Fresh Squeezed. It’s drenched in citrus and popsicle tones and full of her fun designs. It’ll make you want to pull out your shades and head for the beach…but until then, you can read Sandy’s piece about Fresh Squeezed!
Here in Iowa we had a nasty winter. We either had rain and ice followed by snow, or snow followed by rain and ice. To add to the misery, most of the days were gray. So when my box of Fresh Squeezed fabric arrived from Moda it was a ray of sunshine.
I unpacked the box, stacked the fabric on the cutting table, stood back and took in all of the fabulous, bright, cheery, invigorating colors. My winter blahs were instantly gone! My seamstresses and I went to work cutting and sewing the quilts. Soon we had sunshine all around the studio. If we didn’t look out the window, we could believe we were somewhere on a tropical island. I found myself craving orange slice candy. One of my seamstresses was craving rainbow sherbet and stopped and bought some on her way home from work, even though it was twenty degrees below zero – not exactly ice cream weather.
I have designed five quilts using this fabric, but I feel this line has so many possibilities besides just quilt making. Purses, beach bags, pillows, children’s clothing to name just a few. Abby and I made these adorable flip flops. Find this pattern in the magazine Craftstylish Quick Stuff To Sew, Spring 2008. We also made the “Sack it to Me” dress found in this magazine using the large floral from the Fresh Squeezed line. I’m sure many of you will come up with some other great ways to use this fabric. I would love to see what you do. Email me your pictures.
I’m suddenly craving Orange Crush Pop – in a glass bottle. I wonder if you can still find it in a glass bottle.

Yes, they still sell Crush in a glass bottle. I see it often at convenience shops.
Sandy, I am from Idaho and I can certainly identify with the snow and ice. I definately need some Fresh Squeezed! Great Fabric!
