Quilter's Cottage Sew Along Week 1 - The Jolly Jabber Quilting Blog

Quilter’s Cottage Sew Along Week 1

Ever since Lori Holt’s new book, Quilter’s Cottage, came out, we’ve been swooning over the cover quilt. It’s a sweet reminder that home is where the heart is, so make it beautiful!

We’re celebrating the sewing spaces where imagination, fabric and dedication reside – the space that each of us inhabits that we can call our own Quilter’s Cottage. Whether it’s a sewing nook, a dedicated space, or a corner of the dining room, this is where the sewing magic happens and what the Quilter’s Cottage is all about!

If you’re ready to sew up a quilter’s cottage all your own, let’s get started on the Quilter’s Cottage Sew Along! Over the course of 9 weeks, we’ll make our way through this enchanting quilt.

About the Quilt

This quilt is sewn with traditional piecing techniques and it finishes at 74.5″ x 89″. There is no paper piecing or applique needed. The fun thing is, you can choose your colors to make the Quilter’s Cottage of your dreams, which is exactly what our quilty friends are doing. Read on to see what they’re sewing with. Please visit the announcement post for a list of all the supplies and the sew along schedule.

All the projects in Quilter’s Cottage feature Lori Holt’s Vintage Happy 2 fabric collection.

Flowering Tree Block

This week we’re sewing these lovely trees that flank the cottage. Following the instructions on pages 4 and 5 of Quilter’s Cottage, make two Flowering Tree Blocks.

  1. I didn’t get notice of the 1st sewing along! I have purchased everything from The Fat Quarter Shop! What am I doing wrong?

      1. Me too, this is the first sew along , I have the book and fabric kit but can’t find the videos to sew along…….where are they please?

    1. Yes I have also noticed the same thing and Bee in my bonnet has not posted anything for this sew along as of yet….

      1. Me too…. where is it fairly new to quilting and my first sew a long. Been searching and I much be missing something…?

    2. Hi Valeria, to get updates from us, please subscribe to our blog. You can sign up from the bar on the right hand side of the blog if on desktop (or below the main information if on your phone) that says Email Subscription.

  2. I can’t figure out how or where to share the badge. I want to participate, but having trouble figuring out how to do it.

  3. Many of us are confused! No real info on making the first block or how we join, etc!

    1. Hi Shauna, I apologize for the confusion. I’ve added more information above to make it more clear. This week we’re sewing the trees that flank the cottage. Following the instructions on pages 4 and 5 of Quilter’s Cottage, make two Flowering Tree Blocks. To join, you can subscribe to our blog (see Email Subscription box in the right-hand column) and follow along.

    2. Where am I supposed to share it TO? I get the blog emails, do I need to do anything else to do this sew along? Are there videos? I have the book, do I just follow that for which ever week we are working on? This is the most confusing sew along I have ever done, and I’ve done A LOT

    1. Hi Kristina, I apologize for the confusion. I added instructions above. This week we’re sewing the trees that flank the cottage. Following the instructions on pages 4 and 5 of Quilter’s Cottage, make two Flowering Tree Blocks. Please let me know if I can help further.

  4. will there be videos for this sew along? I have not tarted mine as yet but would ove to watch the videos at another time. Will the videos, if there are any be available o you tube? Thanks

    1. Hi there! We will not be offering any videos for this Quilt Along! You need the instructions from the book to complete the quilt. Our blog posts help keep on track and sew along on a schedule with others!

  5. Is there a video? I have all the materials for this quilt but for the life of me I can’t find the first video.

  6. Same here, have the book and the fabric ready, waiting to see a video. If we have the book we know we can start and do the job by ourselves, but it would not be a sew along. So why wait 9 weeks to finish the quilt?

  7. For those of you who are confused – this is what I’ve figured out so far from blog posts, previous Friday lives, and Facebook:
There are no videos to this sew along. Those participating are just sharing their progress as they go along on Instagram, Facebook Kimberly’s stitch squad group, etc.
Post your progress on Instagram using the hashtag blog post to enter the give away. ( as indicated on introductory posting)
The is information for week one on the jolly jabber (this page) and on Bee in my bonnet posted yesterday for week two. (Go there and she has the info on where the main information will be posted and when)
Use the links to the other designers who are posting their progress and they may have tips on their websites. (Listed in the announcement post as well as Lori’s blog bee in my bonnet post)

It has been really fun to see everyone’s progress so far!

    1. Oh! Well that’s a bit disappointing. I was looking forward to videos for this quilt.

  8. It took me some time also to realize that the “sew along” has no instruction help or suggestions – it is simply a progress review for those who care to report – disappointing

  9. I too am disappointed that there are no real video instructions, My first sew along too. Waiting so long due to Covid for the fabric to even get to me I am worried about cutting the fabric, how do I make sure there is enough of all of it for the whole quilt? especially the background fabric, This is a pretty big investment for me and a lot of others. I think we would really appreciate a little more instruction. Kind of feel like since the fabric took too long, you guys have moved on to the next quilt and we are an afterthought. Help, tips, suggestions would really be appreciated. Not sure I will ever invest this much money again. Looks like we are all disappointed.
