Since Lori Holt’s new book came out we’ve been oohing and ahhing over this charming quilt. Now it’s time to clear off the cutting table and put a fresh needle on the sewing machine because the Prim & Proper Sew Along starts next week! We are sew excited to launch this sew along for Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet’s newest book, Prim & Proper.
If you’re ready to sew up this beautiful quilt, let’s get started! This week we’re going to sew the Prim Flower Block. Over the next 7 weeks, we’ll make our way, block-by-block, through this beautiful quilt.
About the Quilt
Lori pulls beloved elements from vintage medallion applique and cross stitch to create an exquisite sampler quilt. The quilt features an elaborate vintage vase holding a sweet floral arrangement of flowers and leaves, surrounded by a colorful array of cross-stitches honoring a sister art. It’s sewn with traditional piecing techniques and it finishes at 63.5″ x 75.5″. There is no paper piecing or applique needed.
Fabric Requirements and Supplies
You will need your Prim & Proper book and some fabrics to get ready! You can find the fabric requirements and more details in our Kick-Off post. To create the cover quilt just like ours, pick up the Prim & Proper Quilt Kit and Backing Set.
Who’s Sewing Along – Featured Quilters
We have a fun lineup of quilters who will be sewing along with us in different fabric collections and sharing their work, too. Check out their social media and blogs to see their progress and tips along the way!

Am I confused…I thought there was going to be a “step-by-step” tutorial on the @FQS blog or @Lori Holt blog. I’m not finding anything. Thanks!
I am having trouble finding information too.
I’m sorry for any confusion on this sew along. While we don’t have any step-by-step tutorials, Lori’s book contains all the cutting and construction steps for each part. This sew along is meant to provide inspiration and help you accomplish your block goals weekly until the quilt is finished. The way that works is:
1. Start sewing on the day it starts according to the schedule using the step by step piecing directions in the book.
2. Post your progress on social media along with the hashtag #primandpropersewalong
3. There are blog posts during the sew along that show photos and talk about participants’ progress and the book.
4. There are giveaways for participants on social media, too!
Although we’re not providing instruction on each block we hope you find this type of weekly support helps you complete your quilt!
The only reason I bought the kit was because it was going to be a sew along. I am disappointed that it is not. Is there anyone doing a blog about this quilt?

I don’t want to join Instagram. Can I follow along another way?
If you don’t follow on Instagram you can follow along with us here on the blog each Tuesday. We’re sharing photos of our blocks and those from other quilters, too.
Are we able to download the pattern for each block?
Hi-just wanted to let you know the pattern for this quilt is in the Prim and Proper book. That is a separate purchase from the kit of materials. They will not be posting patterns. I follow Lori’s blog and You Tube channel…she talks about how things work.
The patterns are contained in Lori’s book. You’ll need to purchase Prim & Proper to follow along.
I would like to see more direct links to blogs…I am tired of the Instagram rabbit hole maze. More sewing time less media searches…
I’m sorry about that Barbara. We make every effort to provide useful links here on the blog.
Like others, I purchased the prim and proper book plus all the required fabrics, anticipating a sew along or at the minimum…assistance if needed or advice from other participants. Disappointed
