Notion of the Month February 2014: The Binding Tool

It’s time again for a brand new Notion of the Month! This month we have selected The Binding Tool as our February 2014 Notion of the Month! And don’t forget, the Notion of the Month is 20% off all month long!

Binding a quilt can be very intimidating. Trust us, we know. Kimberly struggled with binding for many years and developed her own tried and true method for attaching quilt binding. The main tool that made binding easier for her was The Binding Tool. With the help of this tool, Kimberly has perfected her methods and we are excited to be able to share!

We recorded this video tutorial that takes you step-by-step through the binding process. We know that quilters attach binding using many different methods, so watch our video and see what Kimberly does. You might learn a thing or two, and we hope you will have some pointers to add in the comments section! We want to help you overcome your fear of binding!

To encourage you to try binding yourself, we chose The Binding Tool as the February 2014 Notion of the Month. This month only, get The Binding Tool at 20% off and try Kimberly’s methods. Remember, you can watch our binding tutorial video over and over again until you get it just right!

Let us know in the comments, how do you attach your quilt binding? We are always looking for new tips and tricks!

  1. I use this tool every time I attach a binding now. It has really made it easier. I like the mini binding tool for narrower bindings as well, same concept, smaller tool. I'm so glad I found the tool, but am sad to not need the 20%! 🙂 lol

  2. I do not use a tool, just a simple method of which I have a tutorial link on my blog – it has worked for me for years – I love tools but after awhile one just gathers up too many of them.

  3. Dear Kimberly, thank you for your detailed amazing tutorial! It helps a lot, my binding will improve definitely :))

  4. Thanks, Kimberly, for another very clear tutorial! I have had the Binding Tool for a while, but I have not been inspired to try it until today.

  5. This is a very helpful tutorial. Of course, now I have a shopping list: Wonder Clips, The Binding Tool, Simplicity Binding Maker (is that its name?!)

  6. I have this tool and it never fails to get my binding wrong and I check the tutorial every time. I have another tutorial I use that doesn't use a tool and it comes out every time.

  7. I have this tool but I'm new to quilting so I don't use it often enough to get the hang of it. It did work once for me though! I do have a question: Why do you stitch off the quilt corner at an angle instead of pivoting and stitching straight off? Thank you.

  9. Thanks for the tutorial. I entered quilts in my Guild quilt show. The judges deducted points because my mitered corners were not stitched down on the front. I had never heard that I should do that. I am happy to see that you don't stitch your miters either.

  10. I am disappointed that you didn't stitch down the mitered corners. Most judges want them stitched. Otherwise, I learned a lot from your tutorial, especially cutting the edge 3/8".

  11. Thanks for this tutorial. I use the same method without the tool, but your corners are much nicer then mine. I'll try it on my next one.
By the way, what is the quilt pattern behind you in the video?
    Thanks

  12. Great information – I learned some new things. Plus the binding tool is very cool. You are a great teacher.. Very easy to understand.
