Welcome, Quilters! We’re super excited to kick off our newest Quilt Along today: Little Ruby! This gorgeous quilt, designed by Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms, was made with our FREE pattern and the Little Ruby fabric collection by Bonnie & Camille. Whichever fabrics you choose to use, this quilt will sparkle like a gem when it’s completed so let’s get started!
This quilt pattern is super cool because you’ll actually end up with enough blocks for two different quilts if you add additional background fabric and binding! FYI: The background fabric used for the second quilt, the quilt on the right in the image below, is Little Ruby Coral Little Sundae.
While this multi-faceted quilt may look difficult, we’ve got many tools to help you complete a Little Ruby quilt of your own. Not only will we share three separate video tutorials to show you what to do, step-by-step, we also have some Creative Grids Rulers that are going to make cutting and piecing so much easier. Woo hoo!
In addition, we also have nineteen fabulous bloggers quilting along, so you’ll be able to see their fabric selections, progress and finished quilts!
5/30/16 – Part One: Getting Started (Fabric Requirements & Cutting)
Watch the first part of the video tutorial series above, and
see just how easy it is to get started with this beautiful quilt.
The free pattern for Part 1 can be found HERE.
If you love the FQS version of the Little Ruby Quilt as much as we do, you’ll be happy to know we’re offering a Little Ruby Quilt Along Kit! This quilt was designed by Camille Roskelley exclusively for FQS, and it’s such a beauty! We also have a coordinating Backing Set!
Two Creative Grids rulers were used to make this quilt: Creative Grids Hexagon Trim Tool and Creative Grids 60 degree Double Strip Ruler, which need to be purchased separately from the quilt kit.
Check Out the Fabulous Bloggers Quilting Along!
We’re super excited to have several talented bloggers quilting along with us. These fab quilters will give you another perspective on this quilt and pattern, since many/most are using different fabric collections. We love to show you a variety of options, and thank these quilters for helping us with that. Take a peek!

Little Ruby is beautiful … can't wait to start this quilt…
thanks for the free pattern and tute … xoxo
This is lovely! May I make a suggestion? It would be a super duper cool thing to offer a discount on the 2 specialty rulers required for this quilt when purchased together. I am a real gadget girl and would love to own them AND make the quilt but to spend over $50 for them at once takes a big bite out of the budget. Not to mention the fabric if its not in our stash. I have jelly rolls…just not 2 of the same one.
Just a thought and thank you for the amazing videos and free patterns!
^^ great advice/idea Dawn.
I agree. The rulers are pretty much out of my budget.
We just sunk $12,000 on a new "EPA approved" HVAC system, and my piggy bank is empty.
I love this quilt and see what I can dig up with my precuts I have. I love this fabric so much though.
I am so happy that FQS offers such exciting quilt alongs. always so inspiring
Thanks Rosemary! ????
Can you make this quilt without the rulers? I too, am not able to spend the money on the rulers right now.
I'd like to play along, but don't have these rulers. Can you provide guidance on other rulers to use to cut the same sizes?

Will you be getting in more rulers soon? I see the one is sold out also will you be getting more of the little blue dots in soon?
Would it be possible to provide templates in place of the rulers, shipping and exchange is dreadful from Canada, thanks, Lorraine
Thank you for your interest in Little Ruby! While we'd like to be able to offer the two rulers together at a discount, Creative Grids doesn't allow their products to be discounted.
Please keep an eye out for our additional Quilt Alongs and free patterns coming soon!
I am having trouble printing page two of the instructions, CAn someone help.
Could you offer templates?
Is there any way to help me figure it how to add a border to make this fit a full bed?? It looks like I would need about 7.5" added on each side. This is my first pieces quilt to this degree so I'm not sure how to do it??
