It's Sew Emma Spotlight: Debonaire - The Jolly Jabber Quilting Blog

It’s Sew Emma Spotlight: Debonaire

hi again jolly jabbers. rachel here from ps i quilt.

if y’all are like me, then you love stars.
i think that stars seem to fit well in both traditional & modern quilting.

take debonaire, for example.
at first glance, one would quickly assume that it’s a very traditional quilt.

but if you just tweak your fabric choices . . .
you’ve got yourselves a very modern quilt.

i love it when designs/patterns can pull off a double life, don’t y’all???
🙂

let’s have a little fun, shall we?!?!
we’re going to give FIVE lucky peeps a debonaire pattern of their own.
to enter, go look at fat quarter shop’s coming soon page.
pick two fabric lines, one traditional and one modern.
then come back here and leave a comment through rafflecopter telling us which lines you’d like your debonaire quilts to be.

i’ll go first . . .
traditional: seaside by october afternoon
modern: flea market fancy by denyse schmidt

i’m excited to see all the different combinations y’all come up with.

rachel griffith

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Shop owners, Debonaire can be found at United Notions and Checkers as ISE-111.

Oh ya, one last thing. Don’t forget to check out Sew4Home’s blog for a chance to win a pack of five It’s Sew Emma patterns!

  1. Traditional: Aunt Grace Keepsakes
    Modern: Freedom Star

To be honest, I don't have a clue to what fabrics make a quilt modern or traditional. I just go with what I like! And, I like BOTH quilts that were demonstrated. 🙂

  2. I love Twighlight Batiks by Hoffman and also Vintage Modern by Bonnie & Camille for Moda! Lovely as well as the pattern!

  3. I love the star patterns… This is a beautiful quilt pattern! 🙂

I would pick Lansdowne Road by Robyn Pandolph. Gorgeous depth to the colors and patterns!

For a modern twist, I would go with Hello Pilgrim by Lizzy House. The colors and designs are so bright and fun!

  4. Traditional – Christmas Spirit
Modern – A Walk in the Woods

Wonderful pattern! I'm a bit biased as I love stars!!

  5. I love that pattern! It's fun to think about two different approaches.

    My picks:

    Traditional: Friendship by Howard Marcus

Modern: A walk in the woods by Aneela Hoy.

  6. I don't think I did the rafflecopter thing right…

Modern: Lucy's Crab Shack by Sweetwater
Traditional: Gumdrop Tonga Batiks (although I had a hard time picking this one!)

    Thanks for the chance!

  7. Traditional choice would by Autumn Moon by Faye Burgos. Modern choice would by Apple of my Eye by The Quilted Fish. I didn't see a place to click on rafflecopter.

  8. For the traditional version, I'd pick Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille. For the Modern version, I'd choose Abigail by BJ Lantz. Thank you for the chance to win. Take care and God bless, Cory

  9. I too have a hard time with the labels "traditional" and "modern". I'm not sure what they mean. That said, I think By The Sea would be my traditional pick. I love the blues and yellows together.

Cool Britannia made me laugh out loud. It would be fun as my modern pick….just in time for the London Olympics.

  10. I hope I did it right if not I would choose, friendship by Howard Marcus Dunn for Moda for my traditional one and Trade winds by Lily Ashbury for my modern one.

  11. Great question! Of course, I had to look through every page of the "Coming Soon" to make an informed decision – ha ha!

Traditional (sort of) – Ginko Stonehenge

Modern – Joy by Kate Spain

  12. I'd pick Blitzen for the modern quilt – so cute! and Butterfields for the traditional.

But, boy, was it hard to choose just one of each. I really should NOT have gone to FQS right now because I just keep seeing fabric I want!

  13. For tradional, I pick Vinatge Modern, and for modern I pick Tempo Lime. They both have wonderful color palettes. I would love to receive this pattern, I'm sure it's full of tips to get those star points to come together!!

  14. For a traditional looking quilt I would choose Friendship by Howard Marcus, and for a more modern look I would pick Floral Whimsy by Northcott Fabric.
I think that the debonaire is versatile and would look great using almost any fabric collection. Thanks for a chance.

  15. I love this pattern! It is one of my favorites!

If I did the traditional version I would be using the new French General, Petite Odile but if I switched it, I think I would chose the Cosmo Cricket line called Salt Air. That line is wonderful!

  16. I don't get rafflecopter. I clicked on it and signed up but it entered me without letting put a comment in. Perhaps a little more explanation about how to do it?

    But my faves are
    Traditional Nightshade by Tula Pink
    Modern Blitzen by BasicGrey

  17. No idea what Rafflecoptor is so I hope this counts as an entry!

For traditional I would go with Meadow by Blackbird Designs

For Modern I love, love, love Cool Britannia by Benartex Fabrics. I think to fussy cut it would be so cool!

  18. I don't know what Rafflecoptor is either…

traditional – Barefoot Roses Legacy by Tanya Whelan

modern – Floral Whimsy by Northcott Fabrics

    andersonclanatmacdotcom

  19. Hmm…vintage….anything by Fig Tree – loving California Girl. And modern….definitely Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille – although that kind of blurs the lines:-)

  32. I loved your pattern before and now I love it even more! Very fun look to the stars. I would love FG fabrics… the Petite odile line coming out, because it looks like yours but I am lusting after Lucy's Crab Shack by Sweetwater for a fun beachy look that I think would make a great summer quilt.

  33. I also would pick Flea Market Fancy by Denyse Schmidt for my modern. I would pick Lansdowne Road by Robyn Pandolph for my traditional. Yummy for both! Your pattern is darling…love stars also.

  34. Having trouble with the Rafflecopter, but my choices would be:
California Girl by Fig Tree Quilts for the traditional quilt and
Rhapsodia by Art Gallery for the modern quilt.

  35. I have no idea what I'm doing in rafflecopter and pretty sure it did not post appropriately, so I'm posting here (as well?).
    Traditional: Friendship by Howard Marcus
    Modern: Joy by Kate Spain

  36. This was hard, and fun too 🙂
I picked out Frank + Friends for my modern line and Berries Harvest Home for my traditional.

And boy it was hard to pick favorites, what beautiful new collections are upcoming!

I think that Ooh La La by BunnyHill would be my traditional choice

And I'd choose Hello Luscious by Basic Grey as my modern choice.

It would be awesome if there could be some feedback to some of the choices those of us who say they are confused as to the difference if we chose the correct way so we had some idea if we're looking at it the right way or not. I know that's probably a huge amount of time to spend but it would help those of us who seem to be confused between the two. Thank you so much if someone did have some time to help us out.

  51. So hard to pick!
    traditional: Gumdrop Tonga Batiks
modern: the Seafoam Symphony colorway of Poetica by Pat Bravo for Art Gallery Fabrics
