It’s Sew Emma Spotlight: Carousel

Hi everyone! This is our first quilt kit from our book, Simply Fat Quarters!  I am so excited to  tell you a little bit more about our cover girl quilt, Carousel.  This quilt made its debut on the cover of our book, so it’s used to being in the spotlight.

When I started to think about this design, I had a flower in mind. I love to use graph paper when designing so I just started filling in squares and tweaking here and there and “Carousel” was born.

I had no idea what fabric line we would use at the time, so I tested my design with fabric scraps from home! With a little help from the design team here at FQS, we came up with the final design and paired it with Fig Tree’s Tapestry. I knew the minute I saw the Tapestry fabric line that it would be perfect for this project. It needed lots of lights around it to make the flowers pop! The pattern is an easy one even for beginners and looks great in other fabrics. The open design gives lots of space for beautiful quilting.

Get a copy of Simply Fat Quarters and recreate the beautiful cover quilt with the Fig Tree’s Carousel Quilt Kit or mix up the fabric selection and make it your own. I’d like to make another with dark backgrounds and light flowers! Wouldn’t that be stunning?! What collection would you use to make a Carousel quilt?

  1. I LOVE the quilt just as it is shown here but then I also like the version I have seen in Flutter. Stunning!

  2. This is such a gorgeous quilt!! The pattern and colors are beautiful. :0) There are so many options!! Could you imagine a patriotic color scheme for 4th of July?? Like in Avalon. Be still my heart. :0)

  3. Also love the Flutter version. I'd have to suggest Marmalade or Simply Color for some color-drenched options. Would also look great in some Christmas fabrics.

  4. This fabulous pattern would work in almost anything. Wish your book had come out a bit sooner. I would have used Bunnyhill's Windsor Lane or Puttin on the Ritz for a smaller version baby quilt!
