We’re back with another sew along with Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet (@beelori1)! Last year, we did a Vintage Christmas Sew Along with the blocks in her Vintage Christmas Book to make the Vintage Christmas Sampler Quilt. However, we were clamoring to do more with the Two Color Quilts she showed in the same book! So this year, we created a sampler quilt with Lori’s blocks to make the Two Color Quilt, hence the Two Color Quilt Sew Along! You won’t believe how much fun you can pack into a monochromatic fabric set!
Kimberly is making her Two Color Quilt in denim and we even have a Denim Two Color Sew Along Quilt Kit and matching Backing Set to make your own denim quilt. The Two Color Quilt can also be made in other colorways, such as aqua, pink, sea glass, green, red, nutmeg, yellow, or any other color. This quilt is perfect to display year-round!
What you’ll need to Sew Along
All you’ll need to get started is the Vintage Christmas Quilt Book and your choice of fabrics! We are making our version of the Two Color Quilts using the Confetti Cotton Solids by Riley Blake Designs and Pin Dots and Bake Sale 2 by Lori Holt. We will be providing the fabric requirements and cutting charts for each of the blocks every week and the cutting instructions will be provided in the book. Here are the general fabric requirements to make your version of the Two Color Quilt:
Sew Along Schedule
This quilt along will take place every Thursday from April 4 to June 13. Each week, we will be featuring a different block from the Two Color Sampler Quilt featured in denim and different colorways. We will be featuring these blocks on the livestreams on our YouTube Channel on April 5, April 26, May 17 and June 7 at 9 AM CST.
Each block will be featured on our blog and social media (Fat Quarter Shop Facebook Page, @fatquartershop on Instagram) on the following schedule:

The denim quilt isn’t actual denim, is it? Just denim color?
I don’t think its denim. I was wondering the same thing. It was the color I want. 🙂
Making plans to quilt along! I love the blue version … 🙂 Pat
Got the Book, Looks so fun. Mine will be Purple!
I love all of Lori’s books with her bonus quilts! I need to make a green and white quilt for a charity auction (Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis) in September. This will be perfect! Thanks for hosting 🙂
I hope to join you in denim.
I am going to do it. Not sure what colors yet but I love the idea of two tone. Thanks for doing this.
Oh, this is tempting! I may just have to make a red one.
Going to do in Denim. I love Blue. The blocks are lovely and I cannot wait for my fabric to arrive. I am a FQS junkie. I love all things Fat Quarter Shop 💜
Hopefully I can get the fabrics I need from my local quilt shop, everything is sold out on FQS :*( Super exited for this one! Ever since i purchased Lori’s book, its been on my mind!!
I have never done a sew along before. I am looking forward in participating in this one. I think I will buy the demon kit provided.
That should have been denim kit. 😂
We hope you enjoy the sew along!
I LOVE IT! I can hardly wait to get on this!
Just bought my fabric. I’m using a navy dot, navy and purple small squares and a pale blue cloud fabric. Hope it turns out good!
The illustration for the Vintage Pinwheel block, threw me for a loop, until I realized it showed a gazillion blocks, fanned around a single block.
Phew, what a relief (imagune wuilting over that?)
Fumble fingers strikes again
… imagine quilting …
I’m going to do mine in limey greens. Love this. May do another if it turns out good.
Why do we need 5 yards of solid and only 4 1/2 yards for backing on the sew along quilt?
We allow for extra inches on the front side yardage for miscuts. We round up for cuts on each block, so that’s why the extra yardage for the front.
What Aurifil thread matches the Peony pink variant? My daughter wants that variant…
