Quilts will always be our favorite thing to make, but this adorable drawstring bag designed by Stacy Iest Hsu might sway us just a little.  We are a sucker for cute things, and this little guy certainly is that.  It is great for keeping your WIPs together when you’re traveling, and makes a pretty re-useable gift bag!  Stuff it with some of Stacy’s cowboy panel buddies  and a few baby items for an unforgettable baby shower gift.

Check out all of these fun drawstring bags that our quilty staff made!  Because it is a basic bag, everyone has put their own spin on it as well, changing up the lining, pockets, and even the size to make a matching wine tote!  This is a basic recipe – choose fabrics that mix or pop, add buttons for accent, embroider initials on the pocket – put your own twist on it and have fun!

What you’ll need:

2 – 4” x 15” rectangles (lining)

2 – 3” x 15” rectangles (top)

2 – 1 ½” x 15” rectangles (drawstring channel)

2 – 7” x 15” rectangles (body)

2 – 5” x 15” rectangles (bottom)

1 – 5” x 5 ½” rectangle (optional front pocket)

44” piece of 1” bias tape, folded in half and topstitched down.  Use your preferred method or see how Stacy does it here:

Once you’ve got that all cut and ready to go, press play and sew along with Stacy!

  1. Love this bag. Looks great, will be fun to do and useful for all kinds to things. I will be making more than one. Thanks.

  2. This is such a sweet looking bag! I would like to have finished seams on the inside so I may serge the fabric edges first. Thanks for showing!

  3. Thank you for your video on making bias tape. I have struggled with trying to make my own. You make it look so easy!
