Heart of the Ocean Quilt Pattern by Jocelyn Ueng

Hey everyone! Just popping in to talk about a dearly loved design that has just been published in the January/February 2014 issue of Quilty! I named it “Heart of the Ocean” after the deep blues and all the neat jewel shapes that form from these big blocks. It turned out so, so lovely in the photos! Thank you, Quilty!

Debbie Taylor and Natalia Bonner did an excellent job piecing & quilting, as always! The fabric is Avalon by Fig Tree Quilts.

My favorite feature of the quilt is the neat striped pinwheel hidden in the stars. We all love stars, but often I just need to throw something extra in there and be-dazzle it. They are easy to do and look so interesting.

Quilty’s Mary Fons actually did a video featuring this quilt. Seriously. I nearly hugged my computer when I read her email about it. (I didn’t though, that might look a little weird.) Please watch the video and leave her some love!

And of course, please drop us a note and let me know what you think!

  1. Ok, that's just weird….literally two minutes ago, I finished making my shopping list for fabrics to make this quilt! Such a pretty vintage vibe to this quilt.

  2. Oh Wow! Love it!! I've added this to my "To Do" list as well. I always love/hoard Fig Tree fabrics – just so darn gorgeous!!

  3. Thank you so much for sponsoring the giveaway on Jan's blog at Sew and Sow farm. It was so generous of you. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that I win.

  4. Like heather above I just started cutting the fabrics for this quilt. I love the avalon collection and I think this design compliments the fabrics.

  5. Is Quilty a magazine I can purchase commercially or is it a feature of the FQS? Love this pattern. Stephani in N. TX (Tomazec@aol.com)
