French General: the new pattern designers

French General has designed two quilt patterns for their new Fall fabric line, Maison de Garance. Inspired by old shades of color found in a rural chateau, the line is filled with bright reds, deep chocolate browns, naturals and tea stains. The Maison de Garance Quilt is a small 46 x 46 applique quilt with a beautiful old house on the front. This is one of those quilts that you not only want to make, but want to keep.

Reine des Abeilles is a larger quilt, 75 x 82, with a charming hexagon pattern and a wide border print.  I think this quilt would look perfect on an old farm bed or hung on the wall – it’s got a great balance of light and dark and lots of red, of course. Each kit is complete with the fabric and pattern. The Maison quilt comes with a full size template for the house applique and the Reine quilt comes with a plastic hexagon template. Both kits are packaged in a fabric carry-all with two custom labels. Patterns for each quilt are also available at the Fat Quarter Shop.

Now, just in time for Christmas it’s giveaway time!  The Reine des Abeilles Quilt Kit is on the line this time– provided by French General Fabrics!  To enter comment below telling me a present you want most during this  holiday season.  Contest closes Monday, December 20th @ midnight CST.

  1. I would love to have a new sewing machine. Janome has a new one out. Other than that I don't want anything as I have everything I need. Merry Christmas to all!
    as always,
    Val

  2. Oh. My. Goodness. Beautiful!

I want this for Christmas! And a walking foot. And a million dollars to spend on fabric, but I will be content with wining this! 🙂

  3. The gift I want most this year and if all goes well I will receive it is that I get to go to West Virginia and visit with my Mother.

  4. Love French General. My most hoped for gift this year? I really want some expedit shelving from IKEA. I told my DH I want them as tall as possible so I can organize my fabric easily and still have room for all of my glass jars full of impedimenta.

  5. I love the new shades, I can picture a quilt for my bed, with that fabric.

Right now, I just want to be healthy again. Got sick, threw my ribs out from coughing and bad ribs got me sick again, so really really tired of it, lol.

  6. Being from another country, I always wish I could go home for Christmas(mine you my kids remined me, that this is home. Canada) But this year I did splurge and since everyone is a teenager and over twenty at home. I give my self the gift of going home, all of us. So this year is happening but another extra present, (since any other is not happening now) would be perfectly acceptable.lol.

  7. I most want the gift of more time. I keep looking for it but can't find it. I would pay a lot for it. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  8. Wow – these two quilts are amazing! Beautiful!

What I want most this Christmas is some quiet time to myself over the break from school. I spent all of last Christmas vacation marking, with the exception of two days and, boy, was I bitter. This year, I know I'll have some work to do but I need a bit of time to spend with my family too!

  9. Fabric! I've told everyone to get me gift certificates for fabric to help with my stash. My SILs are loving it because they know it will aggravate their brother!

  10. We don't really celebrate christmas with gifts here in Holland but what I would really like is something for me myself and I. Not something that is also needed for the children or the house but something to pamper myself.
Oh the luxury of a hot bath, a book or simply some peace and quiet!

  11. The gift I wanted is the whole collection Civil War from Judy Rothermel and the fabric to make this gorgeous quilt The reine des Abeilles to keep me warm all the year.Merry christmas for you and your team from the Netherlands.

  17. Because most things are too big and too complicated (saving the planet, world peace, etc.), I'll go for an iPhone and a gift certificate to Fat Quarter Shop 🙂

  18. Hello! Thanks for the giveaway!
I'd love a Handiquilter frame for my machine, make it easier to handle the bigger quilts to machine quilt!
Also an Accuquilt Go! would go a long way too!
or, …. a bit, not a lot, of money so I could retire early!
Just hoping Santa brings us health and happiness as we travel to visit family over the holidays!
    Take care, Happy Holidays everyone!

  21. Besides health & soft living for my loved ones, what do I want for Christmas? Easy peasy, quilting fabric! Not only is it beautiful eye-candy (who needs candy canes when fabrics create drools 😉 and awesome to touch, but it shapeshifts with patterns, needles and threads.
p.s.~ My home is drooling over French General, please make it happy.
    Blessings, Jackie in NC

  34. We neither need nor want for anything – but I'd love to be able to finish quilting the 2 quilts I'm giving as gifts this year. Sitting at the computer reading blogs doesn't help!
    Health and happiness for all.

  35. Very early last Saturday morning I was awakened by a horrific crash/crunch of metal — there was a terrible accident fairly close to where I live. I later found out it was a 22 year old husband and father of a two year old and one due next month. He is now sadly a quadraplegic…the gift I want most this year is God's peace for this young family and His strength to endure the struggles their future will encounter. And I'd love some French General too 🙂
Blessings to all – Laurie (llsbaskets@comcast.net)

  36. This Christmas I want peace for my Mom. We just put her in a nursing home and she's having a rough time which is totally expected. Love of family is all that's important during the year. Thanks for the giveaway. I'd love to make a quilt for my Mom and I think she'd love this fabric.

  58. I would love to be the winner of this beautiful kit that is being offered by Fat Quarter Shop!! 🙂

  59. I already got the present I want most- my husband will be home this year (rather than deployed) so our second Christmas married will be our first Christmas together. It's the best gift, especially in anew house! He also wants an espresso machine, though- since I used to be a barista! All that espresso could fuel some serious quilting binges!

  60. I see the honeycomb shapes on the Reine des Abeilles quilt that must have inspired the name. It is very cool.
I am hoping to get more dies for my Go! cutter. I have been getting a few of my scraps tamed (although I swear the pile is bigger now!). I used one fat quarter bundle to make a tumbler quilt, so now there is room for more fabric lol
    Helen

My Christmas wish list: anything to do with quilting: fabrics, quilt books.

  84. What I would want most is to be locked in my sewing room for a month. Someone could slip my meals under the door… If I could finish some projects I could justify buying more!!

    Jill

  95. Mmmmm what I'd like most for Christmas is for all those who lost every worldly possession in the Black Saturday bushfires (here in Victoria, Australia) to finally move into their new houses. It's been nearly 2 years & many still live in sheds or caravans (motor homes)Please cherish your family & friends….. think of others less fortunate; and even if I dont get any presents I'll be happy to have my family around me.
