Neat Stripes
Stripes are a classic print with a lot of variety. Small, simple stripes were often referred to as “Neat Stripes” a century or more ago.
A neat stripe can be the background or the featured fabric, depending on its personality.
Neat stripes were quite the fashion for quilts and clothing after the Civil War, up into the 20th century.

Is this permission to allow our stripes to go all willy nilly? I don't know if I can handle that…
Yes. Most of us just can't do it. But it certainly makes a reproduction scrap
quilt look authentic.
