Fat Quarter Shop is at QuiltCon 2020

Hey there, Quilters! We’re at QuiltCon 2020 this year and we’re covering all the quilty fun on the blog sew you don’t miss out. Thousands of quilters and hundreds of vendors gather to shop, take classes and admire beautiful quilts for a weekend of fun!

QuiltCon is happening in our own backyard this year! The Modern Quilt Guild brought it back to Austin, Texas, this year after hosting the conference in other places around the U.S. Four days of quilt exhibits, workshops and lectures run from Thursday, February 20 to Sunday, February 23! If you’re in the area and would like to attend, get all the information on tickets and pricing.

We’re sponsoring the event and will be taking photos and videos throughout the weekend of some of our favorite finds and coolest quilts. Kimberly Jolly and the Fat Quarter Shop teams make it our mission to share the fun and excitement with you all. Let’s check out some quilts!

Victoria Findlay Wolfe’s quilts are the star of the quilt show. The retrospective exhibit gives attendees a chance to see dozens of her works on display, and it’s a real treat to see them up close.

Improv Star Storm is an explosion of pattern and color!

The Space Between Heartbeats mixes old and new styles and techniques. Find out more about her work and be sure to catch her show this weekend if you’re in the Austin area!

Bold and Colorful Quilts

Some of the quilts that caught our eye use shapes and colors in interesting combinations. Here are just a few of them:

This graphic quilt definitely makes an impression!

Thread complements fabrics for a unique vibe in Resonance by Cassandra Beaver.

A lovely landscape quilt layers color and quilting for a beautiful effect.

Quilts submitted for the Charity Quilt Challenge used words on quilts in inventive ways. The limited palette of black, gray and white didn’t constrain their creativity.

A stack of triangles inspired this piece by Renee Tallman called Festival of Sails.

Nicholas R Ball combines triangles with color to great effect.

QuiltCon’s Contest Winners

Below are a few of the winners from QuiltCon’s many contests! View QuiltCon’s photos of all the winners.

Group and Bee Quilts

Timelines won first place! The quilt was submitted by Stephanie Z. Ruyle and quilted by a group of 11! Each quilter put in fabric and thread to make this one-of-a-kind masterpiece!

Applique

Clementine by Debra Jalbert placed second in the Applique category.

Negative Space

Angular No. 1 by Audrey Esarey won the Negative Space category! She made an impressive quilt by taking advantage of the un-pieced sections of her quilt to create a design within a design.
