DIY Customizable Converse by Melissa Mortenson

Back in April, we had the opportunity to go to the Spring Quilt Market 2018 and among all the gorgeous new fabric, one item at one booth stood out to us the most: the Customized Converse at Melissa Mortenson of Polka Dot Chair’s booth showcasing her newest line Let’s Be Mermaids!

Her adorable customized converse were such a hit at the festival she put up a full tutorial of it on her blog, Polka Dot Chair. As soon as her post went up, we knew we had to make our own versions of the customized converse at her booth. Our Quilty Staffer Sarah made three versions of this project: one for herself, one for Kimberly and one for quilty staffer Aneri. Here are each of their versions:

Kimberly made her customized converse using Pink Converse and a fat quarter of Aqua Gingham in the Bake Sale 2 collection by Lori Holt.

Sarah made her customized converse using Navy Converse and a fat quarter of Sirena Aqua Ananas in the Sirena collection by Jessica Swift.

Aneri made her customized converse using White Converse and a fat quarter of Essentials Silver Linings Gray Paisley Toss in the Essentials Silver Linings collection by Wilmington Prints. Here’s what you’ll need:

And that’s it! Follow along with Melissa Mortenson’s blog tutorial HERE to make your own versions of her shoes. Here is the process we took to make ours:
