Tasha Noel’s first collection, The Simple Life is full of sweet, charming illustrations. Her color palette of red, pink and aqua is eye catching yet dainty. Keep reading for a chat with Tasha about her very first collection!
Q: To what or whom would you dedicate this collection, or what inspired this collection?
A:This collection was inspired by the idea of Redwork. Redwork is simply embroidery done in red thread. It’s believed to have been started in Europe in the 19th century when a new dye process was discovered that was colorfast. Now women could embroider pretty designs onto linens and towels and the red color could withstand the daily vigorous washings. Redwork grew in popularity and eventually made it to America where we have continued the trend. What I wanted to do with this line was to give classic Redwork a new modern twist and mix it up with more color. Red, pink and aqua is one of my favorite color combinations, so it was an obvious choice for me, but one I think is long lasting. The images in this collection are all simple life tasks, reminiscent of days gone by. Hanging the laundry, feeding the chicks, picking apples, making a quilt…
Q: What is your favorite project using this collection?
A:I’ve just recently received my sample yardage and I haven’t had the chance to get sewing with it yet. I did have some teeny pieces of strike-offs to sew a few things for Spring Market and I think the pillows turned out pretty cute! I can’t wait to begin some more projects very soon when the kids get back in school.
Q: What would be your collection’s theme song?
A:I’m generally terrible at remembering names of songs, or even listening to songs these days. My teens think I need to turn on the tunes more. Maybe they’re right.
Q:If you could live in a movie, what movie would it be?
A:Goodness, that’s a tricky one for me. I love different types of scenery so any movie taking place in the countryside or the beach would be lovely. Then again it might be nice to live in Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, minus that creepy boat ride. And I’d have to think about those Oompa Loompas. 😉
Q:What do you get nostalgic over?
A:Over time I’ve noticed that I like doing things or showing things to my kids that I did or saw as a kid. Whether it’s a favorite vacation spot or television show, I love seeing them have good memories from the same things I did.
Q:What is your favorite TV show of all time?
A:Hands down, Little House on the Prairie. I watched it off and on all through my growing up years with my siblings and we own some of the DVD sets now. It’s both heartwarming and funny, with good lessons to be learned. I love occasionally catching a re-run and remembering whatever funny things happened. My kids have pretty much seen them all too and we all get a good chuckle over them. It’s one of those nostalgic things. 😉
Q:What’s the strangest compliment you’ve ever received?
A:I think I have a terrible memory on this one too! Or maybe I just tend to erase those from my mind. I always appreciate the sweet things people say though. It keeps me going, so thank you!!!
