Designer Tidbits: The Quilted Fish

The Fat Quarter Shop is excited to welcome Amanda Herring of The Quilted Fish to the Jolly Jabber. Amanda’s latest fabric collection is Apple of My Eye from Riley Blake Designs.

Q: What or who would you dedicate this collection to? Do you have an inspiration board?
A:My original thoughts didn’t include dedicating it to anyone in particular, but if I had to choose I would say my family. They are, without a doubt, the apple(s) of my eye. I don’t typically set up inspiration boards for a particular line of fabric or project, but I do love to use inspiration boards especially for color. I am always fascinated by what colors people choose to put together.

Q: What is your favorite project using this collection?
A:Well, there are lots of new projects that my team and I have been working on with this line. We have kept most of them secret, but I will show you some sneaky peeks of some of my favorite things…

Q: If time travel became possible, what year would you want to be in?
A:I would want to visit (but let’s be clear, just visit!) the late 1700’s or early 1800’s and meet Jane Austen. I am a huge fan of her books. And let’s be honest, what girl doesn’t sometimes want to wear gloves, a fancy dress and carry a parasol? But, in truth, I love the here and now. I love modern day cleanliness and I love computers and technology.

Q:If you had to change your first name what would you change it to?
A:You know, I have never wanted to change my name. I remember in elementary school when everyone pretended they had a different name or a different spelling of their name. I have always loved my name. But if I HAD to? I think I would pick Miranda. She is one of my favorite Shakespeare characters. And, it’s pretty close to Amanda.

Q:What was your favorite childhood TV show?
A:Scooby-Doo. I love that stinkin’ show! Even still. I am so glad that it has crossed generations and that my children love it as much as I (still) do.

Q:Who is the most famous person you have ever met?
A:I have seen a lot of famous people in person but never actually MET one. One day I was at Disneyland and they had a parade (which we skipped to get on some rides). After the parade we saw Ted Danson, Rhea Perlman, John Goodman, Danny Devito, and a host of other celebs riding rides. I found out later that it had been a parade of movie and TV stars. Guess we should have watched that one!!!

Q:What is your favorite App to play on your phone?
A:Does Facebook count as an app? If not, I would pick Pinterest. And if neither of those are technically apps, I would say Where’s my Water?.  I love to play that with my kids.

Q:If you could marry a technology, what would it be?
A:Definitely my iPhone. In fact, I think in some countries we might technically be married.

  1. I have to pick and choose carefully ( that recession thing) which fabrics to bring home. BUT yours is the one I spoiled myself with. It is charming, fun and brings me a smile just sitting on my ironing board!!!!
