Designer Tidbits: Judie Rothermel

The Fat Quarter Shop is excited to welcome Judie Rothermel to the Jolly Jabber. Judie’s latest fabric collection is Aunt Grace’s Garden Party from Marcus Brothers.

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the Aunt Grace’s Garden Party collection?
A:Aunt Grace was a member of her local Garden Club, which met once a week. She always called it the Garden party meeting. To her it was a party as it became her social life.

Q: What are 3 words you would choose to describe this collection?
A:
1. Bright
2. Playful
3. Cheerful

Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite (can only pick one!)?
A:I would have to pick SKU 3279-0311 because it has all of the colors I used in the line. Also it will make the focal point of any 1930’s quilt pattern it is placed in.

Q:What is your dream project using this collection?
A:At this point I have not designed my own quilt for the Garden Party line, but I would probably use one of my favorite 30’s patterns to feature it in, such as the double wedding ring pattern.

Judie’s Silly Secrets:

1. What is your guilty pleasure food?
New York Strip Steak

2. Where did you grow up and where do you call home?
North Canton, Ohio

3. Do you have any pets and what are their name(s)?
Yes, I have a British Shorthair, and her name is Abbey Road. She adores fabric and Quilts!

4. What is the most important part of a sandwich?
Lettuce

5. What is your favorite fabric print ever (excluding your own)?
This is a tough one, I would have to say a Jinny Byer print that was a simple polka dot on slate blue which I used over and over.
