The Fat Quarter Shop is very excited to welcome Jo Morton to the Jolly Jabber this morning! Jo Morton’s latest fabric collection is the richly colored and stunningly beautiful Elizabethtown for Andover Fabrics.
Q: What was the first seed that grew into the Elizabethtown collection?
A: When I found the antique large stripe fabric, I just knew I had the ‘mother’ for a new group. The next step was to find the companions and decide on the colors! I named this group for my mother, her middle name is Elizabeth. She gracefully turned 89 at the end of May and despite some health issues, she has been a friend, not to mention, a great mother to me. There is an Elizabethtown in Kentucky, affectionally referred to as E-town, as well as an Elizabethtown in Illinois, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina and Pennsylvania!
Q: What are 3 words you would choose to describe this collection?
A:
1. Beautiful
2. Fun (to ‘custom’ cut motifs for projects)
3. Coordinating (When we were coloring this group, I would also look back at ‘Carolina’, ‘Sweet Emilie’ and ‘Toasty’ to be sure there were additional companions for those who collect ‘Jo fabric’!)
Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite (can only pick one!)?
A: This time I like the ‘dots’. I think they will be useful for a long time!
Q: What is your dream project using this collection?
A: This quilt–LOVE it!
Jo’s Silly Secrets:
1. What music are you listening to right now?
No music. I find it distracting when I’m working at the computer or designing quilts. I can have a TV turned on low, usually to a business channel like CNBC or Fox Business, just a drone in the background. Yep, weird.
2. What is your guilty pleasure food?
Dove dark chocolate.
3. Where did you grow up and where do you call home?
I was born in Kansas, but have lived most of my life in Nebraska. For years, I still called Kansas home, but the transition happened several years ago and Nebraska is now ‘home’. We aren’t moving.
4. Do you have any pets and what are their name(s)?
Three kitties – Socks, Tigger and Chloe.
5. Your biggest pet peeve?
People that don’t read.
Well everyone, it’s been great visiting the Jolly Jabber today and I really hope you enjoy all three colorways of Elzabethtown as much as I do! Hope you all have a great weekend!

beautiful fabrics!
What a great interview. Thanks Jo for sharing with us. Your new fabrics are absolutely gorgeous. I especially love the pink, but really can't pick a favorite. I need them all…I feel a serious attack of the "I need a fabric fondling fix" coming on. Aimed at your new fabrics, **insert heavy sigh here**. Guess I'll head down to my sewing room and see what I can find to fend off this need. Hugs…
Jo has once again produced more beautful fabric & I love how she's created new fabric which will blend with some of her other fabric lines.
Wow, these are gorgeous fabrics! Love learning more about the designers!
Lovely fabrics. Great interview. As a Nebraska quilter, I'm an ardent admirer of Jo's work. Someday I'll complete a Jo's Little Women series of mini quilts.
also love the baskets quilts. Do hope to see a kit for it somwhere.
