Designer Select + Tidbits: Parson Gray

The Fat Quarter Shop is so excited to welcome David Butler aka Parson Gray to the Jolly Jabber. David’s very first fabric collection is Curious Nature from Free Spirit Fabrics.

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the Curious Nature collection?
A:Strange elements and shapes in nature, rock music, folk art, mid-century design, motion, fashion, all things that I find exciting and soothing at the same time.

Q: If your collection had a soundtrack what would be on the list?
A:Great question! Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, Leonard Cohen, Woody Guthrie, Rolling Stones, Dave Brubeck, David Bowie.

Q:What is your favorite project you have made using this collection?
A:Certainly the Curious Nature Bulls-eye quilt! (Also found on Fat Quarter Shop’s Free Pattern Page.)

Q:If this collection had a scent to it, what would it be?
A:Bay Rum.

Q:Can you give us a sneak-peek of your next fabric collection?
A:I can tell you it will be called “Seven Wonders” and will work alongside Curious Nature, but we haven’t edited the SKUs yet and I’d feel dumb if I showed something that didn’t make the final cut! It will release this summer.

Q:If you had a mascot, what animal would it be?
A:An Owl. (That’s an easy one.)

Q:Who is your favorite celebrity?
A:Oh I’m a fan of Michael Cain. Especially his older movies like Get Carter.

Q:If we were making a movie about your life, who would you want to play you?
A:Ralph Fiennes could probably pull it off.

  1. What great fabric, exactly my taste
Far better than most of the flowery sweet designs I see in the shops around here
So I would love to win soms since I suspect buying it will get difficult
I guess the I love the Bee Gees is false so fingers crossedxxxxxx
    Greetings Miranda

  2. wonderfully masculine fabric – about time. I think that love of the bee gees would be a false statement although I do so love the bee gees….

  3. Taste in music is one of the hardest things to figure out about a person. You just never know. So I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and just say #1.

  4. This collection is awesome! And though it doesn't specify whether it's the folksy-era Bee Gees, or the Disco Kings Bee Gees, I'm still going to have to go with #2

  5. I guess that #2 is false – the Bee Gees don't seem to fit… but who knows???

Thanks for the chance to win – I simply LOVE this fabric!

  6. OMG! Love these fabrics! I have to say that #2 is the false one. From the other groups he likes, I just can't see him liking the Bee Gees. 🙂

  7. #3 is a lie — Supertramp is truly awful — nothing cool about them, unlike this fabric collectio, which is fantastic!

  8. I think #2 the Bee Gees is a lie. Thank you for the chance to win this beautiful fabric. Take care and God bless, Cory

  9. I'd say #2 – BeeGees is false. I love this fabric collection and would be thrilled beyond words to win! Thank you for the opportunity!

  10. I feel No. 2 may be the lie – only because i cannot see the Saturday Night Fever era Bee Gees being a favourite however if it was the Bee Gees of the 'New York Mining Disaster 1941' they might be!

  11. cool to meet a man who makes fabric and wonderful ones at that
Im going to say #1 Gordon Lightfoot is false

  12. love this collection and the Bulls-eye quilt is wonderful (thanks for the free pattern too)!
I'd have to say that the lie is #3 ~ Supertramp.

  13. I gotta say #1 is false. Folk music is very different from all the other genres of his favorite music performers. But this is a tough one for sure.

  14. Given the soundtrack above matches the musical tastes of my husband, I'm going to guess that the BeeGees is the false answer — no way would my husband ever say that he loved that band, and I'm guessing that David Butler is having a chuckle by throwing that choice in. 🙂

  15. #2 seems obvious, which makes me have some doubts…but I'm still choosing it. Your fabrics are fabulous.

  16. Is it no.2 the Bee Gees (tho' love them) they kinda don't fit in with Leonard Cohen & the others. Just love the collection especially those greys……….

  17. I love the fabric–feminine and masculine, bold and subtle, wild and quiet! Who wouldn't love it. The bee Gees seem like the obvious choice so I'm going to go with #3. Ha! Hope I win!!

  18. Well I will say #2 is false. Hope I win they are beautiful fabrics. I would love to see them in a quilt for my grandson. Pick me plea. Thank you for the giveaway.

  19. I was thinking that the same person who likes the BeeGees might like Supertramp, but then I read that Woody Guthrie is on your playlist, which made me think you might like Gordon Lightfoot. So, I'm going to guess that #3 is false. Fingers crossed. Any extra points for documenting my work? 😉

  20. I have no idea, but I'll guess Supertramp. Thanks for a chance to win the fabric. Looks like a great line!

  21. I am guessing that Number 2 is false. It's a bit like eating sugary cereal day after day. Nice once in a while, but on a daily basis it would interfer with my calories consumed by chocolate.
