Classic and Vintage Series: Carolina Lily

We’re back with another pattern in our Classic & Vintage series, the Carolina Lily Quilt!  In our Classic & Vintage series, we focus on traditional quilt blocks and add a modern twist! The Carolina Lily block is created by piecing half square triangles into gorgeous flowers and using applique for the stems. You’ll be able to sew this up in a cinch by combining flying geese units with a bit of applique to create gorgeous flowers.

Our complete Carolina Lily Quilt Pattern gives instructions for making a tablerunner, lap, queen and king-sized quilts. The block finishes at 14.5″ x 14.5” To make a quilt just like ours, we have the Carolina Lily Quilt Kit available! You’ll also want to pick up the matching Backing Set.

We made ours in At Home by Bonnie and Camille for Moda Fabrics. Check out the full collection with all those gorgeous florals. At Home comes in two colorways. We chose Bonnie’s red colorway for ours, but Carolina Lily would look beautiful in either.

If you’re ready to sew along with us, download your FREE Carolina Lily block pattern and your low-cost Carolina Lily Quilt Pattern, then watch Kimberly’s video tutorial for a step-by-step guide on making your block! Kimberly shows you how to make accurate half-square triangles from Triangles On A Roll paper, making this quilt block a cinch.

This classic quilt block was popular in the early 1900s. We took our inspiration from this block published in The Kansas City Star in 1929. We simplified it by omitting the curvy applique leaves for a modern take.

We have some wonderful quilty friends who bloomed their own versions of the Carolina Lily Block to show us how it’s done. Click on each photo to see it in detail.
