Broken Dishes: Make a Quilt with the Square on Square Ruler

We’re back with another pattern in our Classic & Vintage series, the Broken Dishes Quilt Block!  In our Classic & Vintage series, we focus on traditional quilt blocks and add a modern twist! The Broken Dishes block is made up of several triangles pieced to look as if they are shattering in a perfect, symmetrical way. The cool thing is, they’re made using Triangles On A Roll paper and the Creative Grids Square on a Square Trim Tool, so you have some help along the way and you won’t believe how sharp and accurate your points are!

The Broken Dishes Quilt is available as a FREE, downloadable block pattern and a low-priced quilt pattern. You can use this technique from sewing a simple block all the way to a queen-size quilt. The block finishes at 12 1/2″ x 12 1/2.” Kimberly made hers in Ombre Bloom by V & Co. for Moda Fabrics.

To make a quilt just like Kimberly’s, we have the Broken Dishes Quilt Kit available! The kit comes with the Ombre Bloom by V & Co. for Moda Fabrics and 2” Triangles On A Roll and the Creative Grids Square on Square 8” Trim Tool.

If you’re ready to sew along with us, download your FREE Broken Dishes block pattern and watch Kimberly’s video tutorial for a step-by-step guide on making your block! Kimberly shows you how to make accurate half-square triangles from Triangles On A Roll paper, making this quilt block a cinch.

  1. I am unable to locate the freee pattern shown by K8mberly 8n today’s live streaming video; the Christmas 4-block square wall hanging and the Christmas tree skirt.

I am on an iPad, I am guessing I am not understanding correctly how to see them. I click on free patterns but I see the broken dishes pattern and a couple previous patterns but neither of the two Christmas items you showed today. Thank you for your help!

P.S. I totally love all the contents of my ss box which arrived today😬👍🤗❤️❤️❤️
