How to Use the Creative Grids Stripology Ruler: Video Tutorial!

If you love quilting tools that save time and are easy to use you’ll love the Stripology Ruler by Creative Grids!  This ruler is a total game changer, quilting friends – you’ll use it again and again!

You’ll reduce your rotary cutting time by up to 75% with this Stripology Ruler! Cut your full width fabric and fat quarters into the most popular pre-cuts on the market – 1 ½” & 2 ½” strips; 5″ & 10″ squares. You can also cut 2 1/2″ strips of fabric for binding SO quickly and easily! Originally designed by the oh-so-clever Gundrun Erla of G.E. Designs to use with her well-known tongue-in-cheek line of “strip” patterns, this ruler has so many other uses.

Watch this video for a quick, fun and eye opening tutorial with Sherri McConnell. You’ll see why this ruler is one of her favorite cutting tools.
Happy Cutting, Happy Sewing, and Happy Quilting!

Little Ruby Quilt Along: Part Two!

Welcome to Part Two of our Little Ruby Quilt Along! This gorgeous Little Ruby quilt, designed by Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms, features the Little Ruby fabric collection by Bonnie & Camille. Last week we covered fabrics and cutting instructions, and this week we’re showing you how to make the Star blocks!

Friendly reminder: This quilt pattern is super cool because you’ll actually end up with enough blocks for two different quilts if you add additional background fabric and binding!  FYI: The background fabric used for the second quilt, the quilt on the right in the image below, is Little Ruby Coral Little Sundae.

If you’re ready to start your Little Ruby Quilt we’ve got tools to help you complete a Little Ruby quilt of your own.  Not only will we share three separate video tutorials to show you what to do, step-by-step, we also have some Creative Grids Rulers that are going to make cutting and piecing so much easier. Woo hoo!

6/13/16 – Part Two: Star Blocks – that’s today!

If you want to make the exact quilt shown above, you’ll be happy to know we’re offering a Little Ruby Quilt Along Kit! This quilt was designed by Camille Roskelley exclusively for FQS, and it’s such a beauty!  We also have a coordinating Backing Set!

Two Creative Grids rulers were used to make this quilt: Creative Grids Hexagon Trim Tool and Creative Grids 60 degree Double Strip Ruler, which need to be purchased separately from the quilt kit.

We Love Creative Grids, Do You?

Hello quilters!  We have been huge advocates of Creative Grids rulers for some time now; it’s a no-brainer for us with their easy-to-read lines and grippy non-slip textures.  But there are also a wide variety of them out there, so what are the stand-outs to us?  From basic to specialized, Kimberly and a few of the Fat Quarter Shop team have listed their favorite Creative Grids rulers.

“I absolutely LOVE Log Cabin Quilts! This ruler makes it so easy to make perfect log cabin blocks.  See it in action in our Hope Blooms Quilt video.” – Kimberly

“This is by far my favorite specialty ruler! It helps create the most accurate dresden block, and it’s so easy to use.  We have a video tutorial coming out this month on how to create the Sundance Dresden Pillow with this ruler!” – Codi

“Let’s go back to basics with this must-have ruler for all quilters.  The 8 1/2″ x 24 1/2″ ruler is my everyday go-to ruler.” – Deborah
* We should note, this ruler was on EVERYONE’s daily use list!

“This ruler might seem intimidating to use, but it’s actually very simple!  This 30 Degree Triangle Ruler gives the coolest effect for your blocks.  We used it with Jelly Rolls in our Firecrackers quilt.” – Jocelyn

“I love making strip quilts, and the Stripology ruler cuts down my cutting time in half.  It makes it so easy to cut my 2 1/2″ strips from any print I like.” – Kat

“This ruler is the perfect size for my love of small projects and quilts.  It’s also great for traveling in your sewing kit.  I definitely recommend having multiple of these small rulers.” – Sarah
