Blog Tour: Geared For Guys - The Jolly Jabber Quilting Blog

Blog Tour: Geared For Guys

Hey everyone!

We are your next stop on Emily Herrick’s Geared for Guys book blog tour, and are happy to be chatting it up!

I guess we should slip into our “guy” cap (the 13- year-old faded baseball cap that smells like sweat and grass) and cut to the chase! After all, someone’s going to get to win their own free copy of the book and I know you’re hankering to get to those details. 🙂

First up, guys and quilts! Emily is 100% on the spot with this – every day I get calls and e-mails to the shop asking for boy stuff. Every time a really good boy-esque group comes along, there is tons of buzz! And now patterns and fabrics for older guys too? Even farther and fewer! So thanks Emily, for ensuring that I’ll have quilts to make for my boys they will actually be excited about in years to come!

Moving onto originality! Bonus, bonus, bonus – each quilt in this book is interesting and surprising. Classic and contemporary enthusiasts alike can dig in – I feel drawn to both looks! It is really hard for me to choose a favorite in here – “Ivy League”, “Odd Ball”, “High Voltage”, “Helix” – no, don’t make me choose!

“Ivy League”
“Odd Ball”

I definitely know a few boys that would gravitate toward the awesome appliqué in “Gamer” though!

“Gamer” sneak peek

At the end of the book, she even shares fun quilting ideas and tips for your manly quilts. Cuz, you know, quilted daisies wouldn’t really fit on the “Odd Ball” applique!

Well I know you are all waiting to hear what kind of matrix you have to pass to have the opportunity to win your very own copy of the Geared for Guys Quilt Book! We will just keep it short and sweet and all you need to do is leave a comment in the Rafflecopter below answering the following question: What male in your life do you want to make quilt for?

  9. I just finished a quilt for my dad but now my brother wants one for his birthday in the fall! He's much more modern so this would be an awesome book!

  10. Oh, this is the perfect giveaway for me. My hubby and I raised out two oldest grandsons from infancy and I have already sent a quilt to oldest grandson who is away in the Air Force. But now his younger brother who graduates High School next month, will be leaving in August to go into the Marine Corps and I need to get a quilt made for him by the time he gets out of Basic Training. Thanks so much for the chance!!! Big Hugs…

  11. I should make a quilt just for my husband…but he would say all of them are his. I have 3 brothers, 2 brother in laws, and 5 nephews so there is an endless supply of men in my life to make for. This book would be perfect.

  12. Both my sons would love it if I made the Gamer quilt. What a fabulous book idea! It's something that we've needed for a long time.

  13. This book looks great! I would make on for my husband. He has been deployed three times and I would love to send him a quilt I made next time he deploys! Thank you!

  14. I have lotsa guys to quilt for. 3 nephews, 3 brother in laws, four brothers, 4 dads…I could definitely use this book! 🙂

  15. My nephew is graduating from high school next year and I've been trying to come up with a "manly" quilt that he can take to college. I don't want to do a t-shirt quilt. The ideas in this books look like excellent dorm room addition.

  16. I want to make a quilt for my hubby who loves trains and i am looking for a very manly type of pattern

  17. I would love to make a quilt for my son. He sees me making quilts for everyone else and now he wants one for himself….backed in Minky!

  18. I made my 4 kids quilts for Christmas last year and my Husband looked at me and said "I want a quilt, Will you make one for me"? I haven't made him one yet because I am looking for the perfect man quilt idea. So I would make my ever patient husband a quilt 🙂

  19. I would make a quilt for my husband 🙂 He's a gamer and he actually makes games for the ipad/iphone and various other hand held devices so I know he'd LOVE the gamer quilt!

  20. Has to be hubby as he loves to curl up on the sofa and hasn't got his own quilt yet, just the girls in the family. Thanks for a chance to win 🙂

  21. My husband pretty much tolerates my quilts. He says that he doesn't care as long as they're warm, but I would LOVE to see him get excited about one!

  25. My husband! He sees me make quilts for others, and never gripes about the cost or time it takes. I think he deserves one, too!

  26. Since my husband just got a quilt from me, it would be for some young man at the veteran's sanctuary. Kathie L in Allentown

  27. I want to finish the quilt for my husband that I've been working on for 2 years. Thanks for the chance to win.

  28. I have 3 boys and a husband so I'm the only estrogen in my house. I have to make boy quilts…well, once in a while I sneak a girly one in just for me. I would love this book.

  29. First my 9 year old son, after that….my husband, my two brothers, maybe a couple of my brothers in law (I have 4!)…after that….we´ll see!!!!

  30. My son. I made a quilt for his birthday a few years back, but he needs one for his bed now. Thanks for the giveaway.

  33. I would first make one for my husband, and then my son … Or maybe the other way around. 😉

  34. I owe my four year old son a quilt. I was making one when he was born but I use that on my bed because it is so special to me and the memories it holds. He would like a dinosaur one or a truck one or a Halloween one. I think he would be happy with anything I make, as long as he can help to do some of the sewing.

  35. My son *needs* a robot quilt ASAP! But the argyle diamonds are just adorable. Maybe he needs two quilts.

  36. My 39 yr old son told me that is all he wants for Christmas this year from me is a quilt, so this book would be great for finding a pattern for his quilt.

  47. It's my eldest son's turn for a new quilt. He received one of my first quilts when he was sixteen, but much later said he wasn't really very fond of quilts. Needless to say, I didn't offer him any more. Now he's decided he does like quilts, so 21 years later, it's time for a new one.
