These past five weeks have been so fun for us as we have watched you and your quilting friends stitch these projects together, and we’re hoping that the Best Friends Quilt Along was able to put the “sew” back into your social life! Today we’re excited to join our quilty BFFs in creating a beautiful quilt together!
Make it a modern-day quilting bee as a block swap for everyone to piece their own quilt or pool your blocks together into one quilt to share. No matter which way you do it, every stitch of this friendship quilt will be fun and fulfilling!
The Best Friends Quilt Along lasted for five weeks, from January 7 – February 4, 2021. This week we’re looking at all of our finished quilts that our Best Friends have sewn!
DOWNLOAD THE FINISHING PATTERN
For this quilt along, Lori and Kimberly sewed half of the blocks to make a complete quilt. Both Kimberly and Lori sewed their blocks with the Bee Basics 10″ Stacker and the Bee Backgrounds 10″ Stacker. Lori is sending her blocks to Kimberly to have their blocks combined into a Best Friends quilt, and they are planning on auctioning their quilt off together for Make-A-Wish!
Our Featured Quilting Buddies
These featured quilters have been stitching along with us, and their quilting pals! We have been showing you their blocks each week, and now the suspense is over. Here are all of their finished Best Friends quilts!
Jen (@heritage.threads) stitched up her blocks using Blossom On White Navy and the Confetti Cottons Riley Navy Solid by Riley Blake Designs.
Haley (@happinessinthemaking) sewed up her blocks using Riley Blake Solids in Riley Gray and Confetti Cotton in Riley Gray
Hilary (@byhilaryjordan) stitched up her blocks using Blooming Bunch by Maureen McCormick for Moda Fabrics.
Tina, (@tina1802) stitched up her blocks using Bella Solids and Kona Cotton Solids!
Jessica (@jessicadayon) made her blocks using Hopewell by Jo Morton.
Amber (@gigis_thimble) sewed up her quilt using Seeds of Glory by Stacy West of Buttermilk Basin for Riley Blake.
Marisa (@marisawilhelmidesigns) made her blocks using Decostitch Elements and the background is Pure Elements Deep Black by AGF Studios for Art Gallery Fabrics.
Kristie (@crosshatchquilts) sewed up her blocks using Flea Market by Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs.
Carol B, (@cattrio4me) sewed her blocks using Bee Basics and Bee Backgrounds by Lori Holt!
Vicki (@vickilhollowayquilting) used Ombre Fairy Dust by V & Co. for Moda Fabrics to stitch up her quilt! Vicki sewed her blocks in snowy Michigan, and stitched her and her quilting buddy’s blocks together to create this colorful quilt!
About the Quilt
The quilt is made from four classic blocks – Log Cabin, Economy, Pineapple and Courthouse Steps.
6″ blocks make a lap-size quilt that measures 48.5″ square. 12″ blocks make a queen-size quilt that finishes at 96.5″ square. This is ideal for a “swap”, guild or friendship project because the papers make your blocks turn out the same size!
If you need any supplies, be sure to visit the Best Friends Quilt Along page for the complementary fabric bundles. You can use the Fabric Requirements as a general guide if shopping your stash, as this quilt is perfect for using scraps. For more information on the quilt, supplies, and a foundation paper pad tutorial, hop over to the Announcement Post.

Is it possible to get the pattern? I’m willing to pay for it; I couldn’t participate at the time it was going on because of family health issues. Thanks for letting me know!
Just download the free PDF files in each post about the sew along.
This is such a great quilt! I haven’t made one yet but I plan to. FQS is so generous with free patterns, and it is greatly appreciated! I can’t wait to see Kimberly & Lori’s completed BF Quilt! My fav of the ones above are the orange one from Tina, the Flea Market one from Kristie and the Ombre Fairy Dust from Vicki. Thank you so much for showing what these other people completed as it helps give us more great ideas! I am really thinking I want to make this in red & white, but also maybe in Christmas prints. The ideas are endless. Thank you!
Where are the dimensions for the background finishing blocks? I can’t seem to find them.
Never mind. I scrolled right past it!
I still can’t find the dimensions for the background finishing blocks. Somebody please help a girl out? I keep going back over everything, but must be scrolling right past it?! Thank you
Cindy, We can help a girl out 🙂
Did you download the finishing pattern linked above? Here is the link as well – https://www.fatquartershop.com/best-friends-sew-along-week-five-quilt-free-pdf-pattern
The background block dimensions are on the left hand side of the page for both quilt sizes. They are units A and B.
I have finished my best friends quilt and just love it. I made it for a friend’s birthday. I have a picture but dont know how to add it here.
Kay Shaw,
Please let me know where I can see a photo of Kimberly and Lori’s FINISHED quilt (front and back) that will be auctioned. I’ve seen others but not their’s.
