Whether by hand or machine, stitching makes us Sew Happy! In recognition of National Sewing Month, this new set of cross stitch and quilt designs by Lori Holt has us bobbin’ up and down to go thread our needles and start stitching.

To join the Sew Happy Sew Along, you’ll need a copy of the Spelling Bee Quilt Book, the FREE Sew Happy Mini Quilt PDF Pattern, the Sew Happy Cross Stitch Pattern, and your supplies. This special sew along will run from September 22 to October 27, and our sewing machines happily await!
About the Quilt
Sewing is a source of satisfaction and pride for us. We’re spelling out our love for this craft that brings joy with a little help from the Spelling Bee Quilt Book by Lori Holt.
To get started, download a copy of the FREE Sew Happy Mini Quilt PDF Pattern. Don’t forget – you’ll need the Spelling Bee Quilt Book for the block instructions.
You can pick up the Sew Happy Quilt Kit and Backing Set to make one like ours, with Lori’s aptly-named collection, Stitch. This collection was inspired by (you guessed it) Lori’s love affair with all things stitchy!
As a bonus, Kimberly taught us how to finish the Sew Happy Quilt with buttons in a new tutorial! She taught us how to incorporate the buttons, trim, and an embroidered sewing needle into the final quilt.
You can find all of the supplies for this sew along on the Sew Happy Sew Along Page.
Don’t forget to pick up your Spelling Bee Book!

In her book, Lori teaches us about the meaning and detail that words can bring to quilts! Spelling Bee gives you the freedom to be able to say whatever you want with your quilts, whether it’s a beloved poem, personal motto, or commemorative date. This book contains 100 blocks – 52 uppercase and lowercase letters, ten numbers, 20 punctuation marks, and 18 pictures. And they all can be made in 6″ and 12″ block sizes!
About the Cross Stitch
The Sew Happy cross stitch pattern is a sweet declaration of love to the art of sewing, something that both quilters and cross stitchers can appreciate.

To stitch this beauty up, you’ll need the Sew Happy Cross Stitch Pattern, the Sew Happy DMC Thread Pack, and Shadow 25 Count Lugana Vintage Cross Stitch Cloth.
Kimberly will be stitching with the Sew Happy DMC Thread Pack on Pale Gray Gingham 14 Count Aida Cross Stitch Cloth.
To finish your Sew Happy piece like ours, you’ll need these two items:
- Cute Little Buttons by Lori Holt
- Cottage Large Vintage Trim
- Stitch fabric by Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs (SKU# C10931-CORAL)
- Wood Pallet Wall Decor by Hobby Lobby (SKU# 1607290)
Have you wanted to learn how to attach buttons to your cross stitch pieces? Now is the time to learn, and with Kimberly’s help, you can learn this new skill in no time. You can learn how to attach your buttons to a cross stitch piece here.
We gathered all of the supplies you’ll need for this stitch along on the Sew Happy Sew Along Page!

Love the schedule…. I think I’ll even be able to keep up!
I love this one so much.
I absolutely adore both the quilt and the cross stitch picture. I NEED to make both for my she shed! Your designs are fab and your generosity in offering them for free is AWESOME! FQS is the BEST!
I guess I am confused. The backing fabric that I received was a beautiful cross stitching material. Why would it be like that if it is the back. I guess I’m not getting it. Have everything and ready to go.
I love that this pattern will fit perfectly in my sewing room! Thanks FQS and Lori Holt. This is giving me the impetus to work on some of
my Lori “UFO’S” including finishing the Spelling Bee quilt.
Are there video for the sew along quilt.
Hi Wanda! We are going to have two videos attached to this sew along, and for the rest, everyone can follow along on our FQS social media and in the book.
