
National Sewing Month is well underway, and we’ve been sew inspired to pick up some non-quilting sewing projects that have been on our to-make list! If you haven’t been bitten by the sewing bug yet, we have a kitchen-flavored roundup of five cute and quick sewing projects to get your creativity flowing. Whether you’re a seasoned sewer or just getting to know your machine, there is a project here for you!
1. How To Sew Oven Mitts
Oven mitts are a great way to add style to your kitchen without taking up too much of your precious storage space, plus, they’re super giftable! - We used canvas fabric (aka home dec fabric) from the My Happy Place Collection by Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs. The cotton home dec fabric is thick and durable, so it can take some heat!
- 1/2 Yard of canvas fabric for the outside
- 1/2 Yard of canvas fabric for the inside lining
- 3/4 Yard of Confetti Cotton Solids fabric for the binding (we used Confetti Cottons Peacock by Riley Blake Designs)
- 1/2 Yard of Batting
- 1/2 Yard of Lori Holt Heat Resistant Batting
- Pilot Frixion Pen

2. How To Sew Napkins with Mitered Corners
Woven cotton fabric is gorgeous, but we don’t reach for it very often in quilting. One place we love to use it is in home decorating! A few years ago, we put together this quick and easy how-to tutorial for creating perfect mitered corners for woven cotton napkins. Pick up a Fat Quarter Bundle of Woven Fabric for a curated assortment of napkins, or explore our entire selection of woven cotton fabric, find your favorite, and make a whole set with one or two coordinating fabrics! 3. Pockets & Pies Apron
With just 30 minutes of free time and some supplies you probably already have at home, you can make the cutest little apron with plenty of pockets! 4. How to make a Microwaveable Bowl Cozy
Soup season is just around the corner, and that means we have the best leftovers of the year to look forward to! Don’t risk spilling a drop because the bowl is too hot to handle, and DIY yourself a bowl cozy (or two or three). 5. How to Make a Scalloped Hand Towel
Housewarming parties, wedding showers, baby showers, and holiday gift exchanges are getting a handmade upgrade with these Scalloped Hand Towels.
