2024 Designer Mystery Block of the Month

Our 2024 Designer Mystery Block of the Month will be worth the wait to see altogether, but today we’re sharing a sneak peek and all the details! This quilt will inspire creativity and comfort with 12 sampler blocks made with My Summer House by Bunny Hill Designs for Moda Fabrics in colors that will warm your heart and home. Join us in making the 17th Annual Designer Mystery Quilt by Fat Quarter Shop!

This year’s quilt is Full Size, finishing at 82.5″ x 92.5″. The Designer Mystery Block of the Month runs from June 2024 through May 2025. Block of the Month members will receive a block pattern and fabric each month (and don’t worry, there’s a little extra included to allow for starching or miscuts).

The Block of the Month is made up of 12 blocks designed by 12 Moda designers, and each block measures 12″ square. You can learn more about the designers at the end of this blog.

Here’s a sneak peek. Any guesses about the rest of the quilt?

Block of the Month Supplies

The 2024 Designer Mystery Quilt is exclusive to Fat Quarter Shop, and you won’t find it anywhere else! To complete your quilt, pick up the Designer Mystery Finishing Kit, which comes in a beautiful coordinating keepsake box perfect for holding your blocks and patterns. It includes the pattern and fabric for the sashing, borders, and binding to finish the quilt.

Reserve the Designer Mystery Backing Set to receive 7.75 yards of this beautiful bold floral print and a bonus quilt label available ONLY with the purchase of this backing set. Both the Finishing Kit and Backing Set will ship with your first shipment of the Block of the Month.

Optional Notions

If you would like some extra help making perfect half-square triangles without the fuss, we suggest using Triangles on a Roll Triangle Paper in H200 and H300. For some help making flying geese, we suggest the 1.5″ x 3″ and 2″ x 4″ Foundation Papers. The 4″ Square in a Square Paper will also be helpful for some blocks. These notions are all entirely optional to use.

Twelve incredible Moda Designers contributed sampler blocks for this year’s Designer Mystery Quilt! You may recognize some familiar faces and even meet some new ones.

  1. I’ve made 2 completed Designer Mystery BOMs and I’m working on the current one. They are gorgeous and come with lots of extra fabric in case of boo boos. Directions are clear and I have really improved my quilting skills from these projects. Thank you FQS!

    1. Hi Robbin!

We’d say this quilt is good for mid-level quilters or very confident beginners. It’s labeled as “intermediate” on our shop.

  2. I’ve been in 4 DM including the last 2 years. I was sick & am way behind so I wish I could do this one because I love Bunny Hill Designs. The colors are gorgeous 😍

    1. Hi Marilee!

To sign up for the email newsletters for new blog releases you’ll just need to enter your email in the area on the right side of the screen (or bottom if you’re on mobile) that says “NEVER MISS A POST” and also enter your name. Then hit the pink subscribe button below and you’ll be all set!

  3. Is there a possibility of a complete set for international customers? Shipping rates make monthly costs exorbitant for those who live outside the USA.

    1. Hi Lyla and also Jill!

I completely understand the shipping costs and how those add up! I’m sorry but we’re unable to offer that for our block of the month clubs. Some programs where you can get the full quilt kit in one go and then sew along with us each month or week are Moonbeams, Stronger Together, Millie’s Dresses, Vintage Sunburst, Piece & Quilt, Shine Bright, and we’ll have more coming up.

Also, if you choose one of our past year’s Designer Mystery quilts, you can get the whole pattern set, choose the fabrics you prefer, and then join the Designer Mystery Facebook group. Members in there are sewing DM quilts from various years, so there’s bound to be someone working on the same one.

I hope that helps and that you can find one that you like.

  4. 😀Yes please all locks posted in one , or two parcels would save lots of money. Jill

  5. I have been doing the Fat Quarter Mystery quilts almost from the beginning! I have loved every single one of them and several times have made 2, one for me and one to share with someone. The fabric choices are lovely and the patterns well written and easy to follow. These quilts never fail to thrill me when they are finished and I love displaying them in my home. Thank you for your year after year dedication to such wonderful quilting projects. I also think you have amazing customer service!

  6. I am never disappointed with the DM blocks of the month. This one will be my fourth one (or maybe more). Last year’s was a Christmas present for my nephew and his wife. They really loved the colors and I used the setting block (log cabin) pattern for our historical society’s 2024 raffle quilt. I made it in red, white, and blue with the Ohio Star in yellow.
I also like getting the blocks each month as I do them when they arrive which makes putting the quilt together much easier.

    Can’t wait to get started.

  7. Hi there. So the costs for finishing kit and backing say that shipping is extra but shipping is usually free over $80? Each of those kits is well over $80. Can you clarify for me? Thanks!

    1. Hi Sandra! Great question, you do receive free shipping for domestic orders over $80, but international customers get charged shipping. That’s why things are phrased that way. Hope this helps clear things up 🙂
