We’re back with another block for our 9th Annual Charity Quilt, Heartfelt. For our third release, we are thrilled to show you the Darling Block. Are you ready to get started?
DOWNLOAD THE DARLING BLOCK PATTERN
The third pattern release is the Darling Block! It’s a scrappy heart-shaped block, and you’ll need to make five of these for the quilt. We’re sewing with the Beautiful Day collection by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics. If you’re sewing with something different, download the fabric requirements to make this year’s charity quilt.
Sew Along with Kimberly!
On Friday, April 1 at 9am CST, tune in to the Fat Quarter Shop YouTube Channel, and sew along with Kimberly Jolly in a live tutorial as she shows you how to make the Darling Block.
Our Heartfelt Quilt and Cross Stitch Chart benefit Make-a-Wish Central & South Texas.
We are amazed by the generosity of this sewing community and inspired by the stories of the children who have been granted life-changing Wishes. Kids like Anais and Keysean have been granted Wishes that buoy their spirits and create lasting memories. The way the fundraiser works is that we offer the Heartfelt patterns as FREE downloads during the event for a suggested donation of $5 each to our Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas campaign. Or feel free to make a larger, one-time donation of $50. No amount is too small and every bit counts. From February to September, we will publish a new pattern on the Heartfelt Announcement blog on the first Friday of each month.
Heartfelt Quilting Spotlight
We have a great lineup of quilters, quilting along with us (like you if you’re reading this)! We asked some heartfelt questions, and they gave us their darling answers!
Sondra Davison
Sondra Davison of Out of the Blue Quilts is a talented quilter who has joined us for many charity quilt alongs over the years. Like us, she is sewing her Heartfelt Quilt with the Beautiful Day collection by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics.
Sondra shared her lovely connection to the heartfelt theme of this year’s quilt, saying, “I love that this Heartfelt Quilt, with all of its heart-shaped blocks, reminds me of Grandma (Grace Williams, 1883-1982), whose maiden name was Vallentine.”
Then we asked her, What quilt of yours has been the most “heartfelt” or is closest to your heart? Why?
Sondra shared more about her connection to Heartfelt and quilting, saying, “My dearest, heartfelt quilt/project doesn’t really have a name; it’s just Mine and Grandma’s Quilt. When she was 90+ years old (and I still a pre-teen), we cut and pieced these blocks. Grandma had it finished for me, and it became my bedspread. I grew up with this quilt.”
“It heard prayers at night, muffled giggles from non-sleeping sleep-overs, and more than once soaked up tears. When my husband and I married, it went from bedspread to couch quilt and now shares its warmth with me and my cats.”
“The most heartfelt lesson I still get from this quilt is that the most tattered, worn quilts are usually the ones that got and gave the most love.”
“When I gift quilts today, I note, “The greatest compliment you can give me is to love and use this quilt so much that ten years from now, you’ll ask me to make you a new one.” I hope everyone has a “Grandma” or “Heartfelt” quilt. If so, use it. Love it. Let it love you. Wear it out, and only when it becomes too frail to use, hang it over the back of a chair. Better still, pass it on to a beloved pet. Use it on the front porch swing. Cut it up and make pillows. Fill it with memories.”

Bonus Finishing Patterns for Heartfelt
With your help, we can reach our goal of $100,000 in donations towards Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas! When you donate today, you’ll get us closer to our goal of granting ten wishes, and closer to releasing a new finishing pattern. For each milestone goal, we hit with our fundraiser, we will release extra finishing patterns you can use with the blocks. At $40,000, $60,000, $80,000, and $100,000 we will celebrate with a new free pattern release and post it on the Heartfelt Quilt Along page.
Bonus Heartfelt Patterns
Thanks to your generous donations, we released two bonus patterns, the Hearts Aflutter Tablerunner and the Reach for the Stars Quilt! We have one more to release when we reach $80,000 in donations.
- The Hearts Aflutter Tablerunner finishes at 15.5″ x 57.5″ and uses the Beloved block throughout. We made ours with Sew Wonderful by Paper + Cloth Design Studio for Moda Fabrics.
- The Reach for the Stars Quilt finishes at 46.5″ x 54.5″ and much like the Hearts Aflutter Tablerunner uses the Beloved Block.

Hi Jeanne, I’m sorry to hear that. I’ll help you get it figured out. 🙂
Can you tell me which page you’re using to access the pattern; where you’ve been trying to open and print it?
