Celebrate Worldwide Quilting Day with Layer Cake Lotto

A nice shot of Kimberly's Layer Cake Quilt

Have you ever wanted to go off-script with your quilting? Like break out of the mold and do something a little bit… unexpected? To celebrate Worldwide Quilting Day on March 19, we’re encouraging you to cut loose in your sewing room and bake up something new. It’s all about cake… Layer Cake, that is.

A stack of Layer Cakes that are fanned out to show the different patterns

I don’t know about you, but is there anything better than a 10″ stack of fabric? Layer Cakes go by several names depending on the manufacturer, but they’re basically a 10″ x 10″ square with about 42 different fabrics.

A “big sis” to Charm Packs, they’re the perfect precut in so many ways. 10″ squares are small enough there are no folds, so there is no need to iron them, and the fabric size is large enough to use for most patterns.

Layer Cake Lotto Challenge

For our celebration this year, we’re taking 10″ squares and turning them into something beautiful, fun, and unique. We want to invite you to get creative with 10″ x 10″ squares by issuing a challenge to the worldwide quilting community to sew something with them!

What can you make with a 10″ square? Kimberly put her creativity to the test by making a quilt with Layer Cakes in one day!

  3. Hi, I just wanted to double check about entering the giveaway – does it have to be a current range of fabric? And would a junior layer cake (from Ruby Star Society) count or would I need to use one which has 40+ squares?

    Thanks!
