We are excited to finally talk about this delightful magazine quilt of ours, called Love Apples! It is in the July/August 2012 issue of McCall’s Quilting and we just love this thing so much. This quilt is all you need to summer-ize your favorite room!
Love Apples was a complete creative trip. Working with Apple of My Eye by The Quilted Fish was so inspiring. (Really, all of her fabric is inspiring!) I wanted to show as much as possible of her playful fabric and use a wide assortment of prints from the collection, like a fruity rainbow! (Did I get that from a kid’s cereal commercial or something?)
With that in mind, I started with a row of pieced apple blocks. From there, the rainbow magic was worked in with simple rows of “falling leaf” blocks.
With all those colors and shapes worked in, it didn’t need much more than a simple top and bottom border to frame it, and I love how the red sashing and borders brightens it even more.
The small apple stem applique finishes it off, and voila, summer quilt goodness.
I hope you enjoy Love Apples!
Need a summer read to go along with your freshly made Love Apples quilt? I think Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree is very apropos!

It is a beautiful quilt!! Congrats for being in a magazine 🙂
The Love Apples quilt was one of my favorites in the Mc Call's Quilting magazine! So bright and cheery! It will make any room feel like summer! 🙂
I was munching on an apple when I opened this email. Love the quilt & its backing now I have the magazine somewhere but at 1035pm Aust time I will loook for it tomorrow.
Love the fabric especially the dots with the occasional apple, the herringbone, the apples shaped as hearts. This was not on my list…what a problem to have…
Thanks.
Gorgeous quilt! Congratulations on being in the magazine!
