Lori Holt’s Prairie Home book is a fresh take on quilts from the bygone era of covered wagons, hand piecing, and quilting bees. In the introduction to Prairie Home, she notes just how closely tied prairie life was to the seasons. Each season holds its own beauty and opportunities, and these quilts celebrate that! Like Lori, we love to decorate our homes for the different seasons, and we can’t wait to see which of these prairie patterns inspires you to get quilting first.

Now that you know a bit about the Prairie Home Quilt Book and have clicked the image above to reserve your own copy, let’s explore some of what you will find within the pages!

Sneak Peek!

Hold onto your bonnets, this video is a sneak peek at all the quilts in the Prairie Home quilt book by Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet Co.! Keep reading for more of a look at the stunning projects inspired by the bygone area of pioneers and westward bound covered wagons.

This first quilt is the Wagon Wheels quilt pattern. As the name suggests, the central blocks are wagon wheel blocks, and she has done them in fun colors to give the look of flowers on the prairie.

One thing to know about Lori Holt is that she loves a scrappy quilt! The quilts in Prairie Home use all of the fabrics from her Prairie, Prim, and Calico collections with Riley Blake Designs. A few of the quilts also feature some fabrics from her Hometown, Bee Basics, Bee Plaids, Bee Gingham, and Bee Cross Stitch collections with Riley Blake Designs. For all the quilters out there who love to make the quilts exactly as they are in the book, each pattern has tons of details on the fabrics that were used.

One of the things that we love most about this book is how each quilt is so richly inspired by the prairie, Lori’s ancestors, and history. The quilt pictured above is the Prairie Lilies Quilt, inspired by the yellow lilies that bloom each spring on the prairie. The two-colored design really makes the blocks bloom while still leaning into the scrappiness that was so prevalent in prairie quiltmaking.

The wonderful winter section of the book offers quilts that celebrate the coziness of the season as well as designs with Christmas, specifically, in mind. The first photo is of the Trees With Stars table topper that is designed to be displayed all season long but has greens and reds that will fit seamlessly with your holiday decor.

The second photo we have for you is of the Prairie Stockings quilt. If you want to make this quilt using traditional Christmas colors, you definitely could! However, this pattern in non-Christmasy colors pays homage to the time of year when women had the time and the materials to spin wool and make the cozy woolen goods that the season required.

Finally, you have a sneak peek at the Christmas Star quilt, which was designed with true Christmas colors on a neutral background to make the festive colors really sing. As is the case with all of the quilts in this book, this Christmasy quilt can easily be modified to give it a whole different (non-yuletide) feel if you opt for a different color scheme!

  1. Such an amazing book jam packed with so much inspiration! Lori is such a talented artist/quilter and her patterns are so easy to follow. The preview of this book on Behind the Seams with Kimberly was so fun that I have watched it 5 times! I’ve reserved a copy of this book and have several projects planned 🙂 Thank you, Lori & thank you FQS for bringing us all the quilting goodies!!

  2. I believe the first unknown item shown was a cookie press. The big metal heart shaped racked looking thing was for beating quilts clean while hanging on a clothes line.

  3. Will the cover quilt be available as a kit? I’m guessing there are at least 10-15 projects I hope to make…I fear I’m gonna need a bolt of the entire line!!!
You at FQS & in conjunction with Lori Holt, you just keep raising the bar higher & higher! Thanks for all you do & all of the wonderful inspiration!

  4. So happy to see printed books and patterns offered by Lori… Makes the project complete and not as daunting.. Thanks for offering them. We hope to see more with each new project.
