Fabric-Pickin’ at the Fat Quarter Shop

Running the Fat Quarter Shop is not an easy task, but one of the perks is knowing what all these fabric companies and designers are up to! (Then, of course, we try to get you in on it ASAP!) So today we thought we’d show you how we select our fabrics.

Moda Comes to Visit
(From L to R: Jim Salinas, Kimberly & Kevin Jolly)
Jim Salinas, our friendly sales rep from Moda, came in a few weeks ago for a pre-Market sales meeting. We got a sneak peak at some fabulous new lines for Moda.

We’re really excited about 3 in particular: Strawberry Lemonade by the lovely ladies of Me and My Sister Designs (shown in the picture), Prairie Paisley by Minick & Simpson, and Swell by Urban Chiks. They are all very different but beautiful in their own styles.

We obviously don’t stick to one style (just look at our picks from this meeting), so what do we consider? When we look at these lines, we do get picky! We keep in mind what’s worked in the past and what we think our customers will like. We also think about what would go well in a quilt kit. Finally, our personal taste comes into play too, because we have several seasoned pros on staff!

We look forward to showing you all of the Moda Market releases (like the new Simplicity collection by 3 Sisters, which I’ve heard is going to be a big hit!)

So keep a close watch on our Coming Soon page and blog for new Moda collections and more.

  1. (sigh) Moda! I’m such a Moda person! That’s why I could never own a shop – I’d want to get one of everything! You two do an awesome job in picking and choosing. My hat’s off to you!!

  2. Oh it was so nice to see you and Kevin looking at all the Moda fabrics and of course, you had to put that little tease it. As always, you do a great job.

  3. I’m so curious – just WHO are the “Urban Chiks”? I always love their fabric collections, but can’t find any information about them on the internet – and I’ve searched and googled and come up with nothing?

Do you and your inside sources have any info on these talented designers?!!
