Hello quilty friends! we have a special guest today on the Jolly Jabber! Amanda Herring of Quilted Fish is here to talk about her NEW collection, Lula Magnolia. Read on to see what this southern inspired collection is all about.
Q: Tell us a little about the Lula Magnolia collection. What were you inspired by?
A: I have a friend named Lula that was born and raised in the south. This collection was inspired by and made for her. The fabrics in the collection reflect things in the south. A magnolia, a fern, flamingos, and classic living.
A: Of course, I have to start with some sort of inspiration. My inspiration usually comes from one of three things. A life experience, a place or a person. Once I know what my inspiration is, I start to work out what the prints will be. All of this happens before I even start to sketch it out. When I have a feel for what I want to make, I start to draw. Usually I start with a sketch pad and a pencil, but sometimes I go straight to my computer and my Wacom tablet. Then it is draw, draw, draw!!!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Well, that is a toughy! I think my style is constantly evolving and developing. Each time I design a fabric line I want to try something a little different, and push my personal boundaries. Maybe for now, for this collection I would call it whimsically sophisticated.
Q: What projects do you hope to see made with Lula Magnolia?
A: When I designed this fabric line I imagined people using it in their homes. Pillows from the fat quarter panels, curtains, and lovely quilts. I have seen some beautiful clothing and bags made from it. I think it is a very versatile line and would work great for many things. The large scale main print is super fun to play with. It really lends itself well to lots of great things. I hope that people have a lot of fun creating with this great line!
