It’s National Sewing Month, and we wanted to kick it off by celebrating you, our dedicated quilters with a FREE 3-D Popstar Quilt Pattern in honor of the inspiration and community sewing brings us. This design symbolizes how quilting brings our creativity to life. Plus, in the sewing room, YOU are the popstar!
This pattern is FREE, and we’ve sewed up seven quilts in different collections to give you inspiration to make your 3-D Popstar Quilt. We even have a fun giveaway, so read on to find out more!

This version of 3-D Popstar was sewn with Cozy Up by Corey Yoder! The quilt was pieced by our FQS staffer Rylee and quilted by Mike Selman.

This quilt starts with just 12 Fat Quarters, and it measures 49.5″ x 63.5″. Like Attic Window and the Tumbling Block, 3-D Popstar uses an accent fabric for a multi-dimensional effect.
Kimberly will be giving a special 3-D Popstar block tutorial, so download the pattern, grab your supplies, and get ready to channel your inner popstar! Tune in on Friday, September 10 at 9 AM CST to the Fat Quarter Shop YouTube Channel to see how to sew this three-dimensional quilt block!

Love the 3D Popstar quilt! What fabrics were used in the lavender/pink/purple version?
I’m guessing it’s Sincerely Yours by Sherri and Chelsi. 🙂
Click on the photo of the lavender quilt. You should see 1/6 and a box on the right pop up. Tap on the box and the fabric used will appear.
What skill level will this pattern require?
The pattern is suited for a confident beginner or intermediate. It’s all straight lines, but there are about ten different pattern pieces for each block, and you have to make sure you assemble some of the units in the right direction (left vs right side). If you label your pieces and follow the pattern carefully you’ll be fine. You might cut and assemble one block as a test before making them all, or follow along with Kimberly in her tutorial on 9/10. Hope that helps!
What fabric did Rylee use as the ACCENT? This is a really neat pattern and would be fun to make.
It’s yardage from the Cozy Up line
Thank you for sharing. I love this pattern. Now I need to go look through those stacks of fat quarters.
I love this pattern design. I love how you showed it made up with many lines of fabric!
Thank you for another great pattern and block tutorial.
Have you announced the winners somewhere? I have not been able to find them.
