Blogger’s Choice: Lindsay Wilkes

Lindsay Wilkes, the crafter, seamstress, wife and mother of The Cottage Home, is passionate about a handmade lifestyle and passionate about fabric. Lindsay teamed up with the Fat Quarter Shop to bring you an exclusive Blogger’s Choice Bundle, featuring 12 of her favorite prints and 3 coordinating solids!

My fabric selection is probably a little different than the majority of blogger’s choice bundles in the past. I don’t consider myself a quilter, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love fabric! I look at designer quilting cotton from a garment perspective and even more specifically for children’s garments. How can I pair patterned fabrics effectively to make a well put together garment that doesn’t overwhelm a child? Sometimes that can be a challenge, but when it works, it is so fun to see! And what’s even more fun to see is the look on a child’s face when they put on a garment constructed from all of those gorgeous fabrics that just work beautifully together.

Q: What will you be making with your Blogger’s Choice Fat Quarter Bundle?
A:I spend so much time sewing children’s clothing that I think I’m actually going to make a quilt for me. My mom has been really into quilting lately and guest blogging over on my blog, The Cottage Home. She has really inspired me in that arena. I have made a few quilts for my children, but I have never made one for me to enjoy and I think this bundle offers the perfect opportunity. This bundle contains some of my very favorite colors and designers and I think it would be beautiful in our cottage style home. I can envision curling up under it with a warm cup of coffee

Q: What quilt project are you currently working on?
A:Well, I actually don’t have a quilt project going on right now. I wish I did, but there just isn’t time right now. I’m actually working on my first book that is due out in October 2013, so I am knee deep in designing and creating projects for my book. Hopefully after my manuscript is completed by the end of the year, I will have more time to sew for my girls, my little guy and myself. If only there were more hours in the day!

Hot Seat:
1. jelly roll or layer cake
2. planned or scrappy
3. prints or solids

  1. Okay, I follow her pretty closely so let's hope I get this right! I'm going with jelly roll, scrappy, and prints. She seems to sit back and create from what she has rather than plan ahead…or so it seems. 🙂 Good luck all!

  3. Lindsey has such adorable dresses in her shop, I love her pattern pairings (and especially this bundle she's put together!) — I vote:
    1. layer cake
    2. planned
    3. prints

  4. I really like the vivid colors of this collection. Since Lindsey is planning a cottage quilt, I will choose:

layer cake so there are choices of sizes
    planned–Duh–even scrappy quilts have plans
prints–I envision a lively, fun, quilt

This i what I would choose if I was making a cottage quilt!
