Blogger Choice: John Adams

The Fat Quarter Shop and John Adams aka Quilt Dad have teamed up to present you with a Fat Quarter Shop Exclusive! John has specially selected 12 of his favorite prints along with 3 coordinating solids from our store for this special bundle you will only find at the Fat Quarter Shop.

What will you be making with your Blogger’s Choice Fat Quarter Bundle?
Why, a quilt of course! I am still on the lookout for the perfect pattern that will highlight both the large and small scale prints that comprise my bundle, as well as the complementary solids that are included. My criteria include an easy-to-piece quilt with large blocks to show off the awesome fabric designs, like this or this, or maybe this. Oh, how about the super popular Swoon pattern? What do you think? I’m taking suggestions in the comment section below …

What quilt project are you currently working on?
I’m a bit behind on all of my projects at the moment, having moved to a new house last month. Many of my sewing boxes — including all of my fabric boxes! — are not yet unpacked, so I am going into a bit of withdrawal. I’m sure I’ll find a few WIP’s that I have since forgotten about, but I know I need to finish up this charity quilt, catch up on my Farmer’s Wife Quilt-along blocks, start a few items for a Triangle Modern Quilt Guild swap, and finish up a new free quilt pattern for a project made with Laurie Wisbrun’s fantastic fabric. I’m also leading up a fun embroidery stitch-along over on the Feeling Stitchy blog this month and invite you to come join us!

Hot Seat:
1. jelly roll or layer cake
2. planned or scrappy
3. prints or solids

Leave a comment on this post choosing one of each pair you think John would have selected. Answer correctly and you will have a chance to win one of his Blogger’s Choice Fat Quarter Bundles.
You have exactly one week from this post till the contest closes.

Good Luck!

  1. Oh, this is a great collection! I'd go with the Garden Arbor pattern.

and I pick: jelly roll, scrappy, solids

  2. I love hearing from men who quilt!!! And this collection is amazing (of course!). My guess:
    Jelly Roll
    Planned
    Solids

  3. I'm going to go with Layer Cake, Planned, and Prints.

I'd love to win a bundle of these fabrics! I especially like the star-like teal print on top of the stack. 🙂

  4. I love the choices John mad for his bundle. I think he'd go with Layer Cake, Prints and planned. Thanks for the opportunity to win one of these lovely bundles.

  5. layer cake, planned and solids. he just seems like that kind of guy. also, i think one of the jaybird patterns would also be great – firecracker or unwind?

  6. Oooooh! I can't wait to see the finished quilt… I am guessing that he will choose layer cake, planned and prints. Thanks for the chance!!

  7. layer cake, planned and print for Quilt Dad's Swooning Quilt? I could be wrong… but that's the way I see him going and having a great time trying to guess!

  8. I think layer cake, planned and print. A jelly roll is too narrow to show off his prints. SWOON is a brilliant idea!

  9. I would say:

    Layer cake
    Scrappy
    Prints!

I love his set 🙂 so bright and fun!!! Thanks for the chance to win 🙂

  10. I'd have trouble choosing answers for myself. All good choices:) Let's try

    1. layer cake
    2. planned
    3. prints

Thanks for the chance to win this great fabric!

  11. I think the answers are Layer cake, planned and solids. Thank you for the chance to win this beautiful bundle that John picked out. Take care and God bless, Cory

  12. I think I will go with jelly roll, planned, and prints. Thanks for the chance to enter!

  13. For John I would definitely have to say
    Layer Cakes
    Planned
    Prints
Great selection of fabrics, John. Judy C in NC is playing along

  14. I'm sure what ever John creates will be beautiful and perfect – but I'm guessing he will PLAN his quilt with LAYER CAKES in PRINT fabrics. Thanks for the chance to hopefully win some fabric.

  15. Funky Windows would be a great pattern for this fabric because you can use the solids as the "window" and the prints for the square within the window and vice versa.

    Layer cake
    Planned
    Prints

  16. Layer Cake, Planned, Prints. Thanks for a great article, so good to find out more about John – his fabric choices are gorgeous.

  17. I love the fabric choices John made as well. The blue and greens go so well together. I will say John will choose jelly rolll scrappy, prints.

  18. I think the following would be John's choices:
    Layer cake
    Scrappy
    Prints

  19. Layer cake
    Planned
    Prints

Love me some Quilt Dad! I have GOT to buy that Swoon pattern. It scares me to death, but I NEED it.

  20. jelly roll-scrappy-solids. But any choices would make a good quilt. Lovely prints and lovely colors in the fabrics.
I love the looks of your embroidery project.
    Thanks very much.

  21. Based solely on his Farmer's Wife QAL and his choices here, I'd say: Layer Cake, Planned, Prints.

  22. What impossible questions! I couldn't answer them for myself, much less John. Too funny. Guess I'll take a stab in the dark and say layer cakes, planned and prints. Whew! Thanks for the opportunity.

  23. Layer cake
    Planned
    Prints

I like the Whimsical Whirl pattern so the larger bolder prints would be shown off in the centres with smaller prints around the edges. The squares suit the masculine fabric choices too.
    Cheers,
    Robyn

  24. I will just say what I would pick and since great minds think alike, I am sure John picked the same!

    Jelly Roll
    Planned
    Prints

  25. Hmmmm, I'll guess Layer Cake, scrappy, & prints. And, I love all of John's choices for a quilt using his collection, but I'm going to throw out another one: Danish Delights by Little Louise Designs. Thx for the chance!

  26. What a coincidence – just finished working with a navy, olive and teal
project. Nice to see your selections. They really do have appeal.
    Layer cakes
    Scrappy
    Prints

  27. layer cake – planned – prints
But, whatever he chooses, it's going to be stunning. I love the mx of patterns, but expecially the solids – they will make the quilt.

  28. I'd go for the quarter cut up nine patch block and make that into a quilt. I love that design, looks so nice and really easy

  29. Wibble wobble JELLY
    Hip hop happy SCRAPPY
    Bright BRIGHT PRINT

I think a Spring Shower quilt with brollies on it would be COOL!

  30. I really adore these colours! I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I'd do some sort of chain with pinwheels in the alternate blocks, because I am leaning toward traditional blocks lately. I'm sure you'll come up with something infinitely more interesting and I can't wait to see!

  31. LOVE those fabrics. I've been wanting something masculine for a quilt for my husband and these would be PERFECT. I would have never thought of putting teal and gray together with the blues and greens.

    My choice is:
    jelly roll
    scrappy
    prints

  32. I really like the fabrics. What a fun decision you have to make. I like the Garden Arbor or Off Tracks designs best. I thought the fabrics would get lost in the first pattern – just too muddy.

    Layer cake
    planned
    prints

  33. Layer cake, planned, prints would be my guess. I like the off track pattern for your fat quarter bundle. I think I would make that pattern for a wall hanging for my son's condo. It looks very masculine.

  34. Wow…let's see. Layer cake, Scrappy and Prints…and I think you should make the Denyse Schmidt Flea Market pattern…fabulous picks John!

  35. Fun, I pick:

    Jelly Roll
    Planned
    Solids

As far as a pattern, I like the log cabin one with the larger than average hearth stone. I will be watching your blog to see which one you choose.
