Are you Ready for the Jolly Bar Row Along? - The Jolly Jabber Quilting Blog

Are you Ready for the Jolly Bar Row Along?

The long-awaited sequel to The Jolly Bar Book Volume 1 came out this week, and we’re so proud to show it off! It’s Sew Emma set the bar high for fun, fast quilts with their first book of Jolly Bar Quilts. Now, they’re offering 20 more quilt patterns in Jolly Bar Book Volume 2! In case you haven’t come across them before, Jolly Bars are a 5” x 10” exclusive Fat Quarter Shop precut that hit your sweet spot.

The Jolly Bar Book Volume 2 includes 20 quilt patterns designed just for these precuts, compiled in one place for the second time. Grab a Jolly Bar, pick any design and enjoy! These quilts offer a wide range of styles while still being beginner-friendly. You will want to make them over and over again. No matter which quilt you start with, we hope you have sew much fun!

To celebrate the book, we’re hosting the Jolly Bar Row Along! Join us as we go row-by-row to make this beautiful sampler quilt full of sparrows, butterflies, hearts and more!

Starting Monday, June 29, 2020, we’ll be sewing one row a week for seven weeks. The quilt we’re making uses a sampling of blocks from the book, and all together they make a beautiful lap-sized quilt. We have some friends sewing along with us who will be showing off their blocks each week so you can sew along with them and get motivation along the way!

Kimberly sewed hers up with the new Bloomington collection by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics.

Butterflies, hearts and spools are just a few of the blocks making an appearance. The quilt finishes at 51″ x 56″.

Row Along Supplies

To join the Jolly Bar Row Along, you’ll need a copy of the Jolly Bar Book Volume 2. Check out the fabric requirements below for the rest. Then you can join us each Monday here on the blog for the cutting instructions. We will provide instructions for sewing the rows together in the Finishing Pattern in Week 7.

Fabric Requirements

DOWNLOAD A PDF OF FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

** PLEASE NOTE: PRE-WASHING AND STARCHING JOLLY BARS IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THIS BOOK**
The shrinkage from pre-washing and/or starching will cause the precuts not to fit the pattern.
Make sure to measure twice before cutting and plan out fabric placement

    1. Hi there! Noe, you need to book to be able to follow along with the patterns.

        1. It is just the cost of the fabric and book, there is no additional cost to participate!

  2. This looks great. Is the book available to buy as a digital copy? A much easier option for international crafty people. 😁

  3. Do I need to start another quilt? No way, but, am I am going to? Absolutely!! I can’t wait. I ordered my book and fabric today!

  4. I hope my books gets here. I’m patiently waiting. I know you are all working as fast and hard as you can. Thank you so much for trying your very best

  7. This is so pretty! I have a Jolly Bar from the April Sew Sampler box (At Home by Bonnie and Camille) and ordered my book in plenty of time to start. Unfortunately, shipping is delayed and now I’m counting down the days to May 21st and keeping my fingers crossed. Yes, I know I can start on any date once the book arrives, but a sew-along is more fun when you “sew-along!”

  8. I love this sampler quilt! Can’t wait to start it. I have my book and Jolly Bar. I ordered the finishing kit for the April 2020 pattern, will it be enough fabric for the background and binding to do this quilt? I decided not to do the Garden Gala pattern.

  9. Thank you for changing up the date to start. You guys are great and are doing a great job with all that is happening right now. Hats off to all the amazing peeps in customer service!! and to you Kimberly and crew filming all the livestreams. You make us happy 🙂

    1. Hi There! We are moving the date to June 29 to accommodate those who are still waiting for supplies to arrive. We hope you will still join us!

  10. I bought the book and the At Home Jolly Bar. They are in my sewing room ready to go. I’m off to my local quilt shop today to get the background fabric. This is my first sew along so I am a bit nervous… but excited too! Do I visit this blog on Day 1 for further directions? Thank you 🙂

  11. Thank you for extending the start date! Now my book should be here in plenty of time ❣️I appreciate that💁‍♀️🧵🌻

  12. I got my book and fabric and now I see it’s been delayed and I won’t be able to participate bc I will be away from my machine for 3 weeks. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch up once I get back.

  13. I am so glad that you extended the start date on this. I’m waiting for my book & fabric so I can start and keep up with this one. It will be a fun and easy summer project. Thank you!

  14. This will be my first Sew Along and I am so excited! I have the Jolly Bar Book, both volumes, thanks! They have beautiful and easy quilt patterns. I love them! Kimberly, you are amazing, as well as your beautiful staff. Thanks for helping us fall in love all over again with our quilting!

  15. I love this! I just bought book 2 lots of cute quilts compared to book 1. I will be maki g this quilt it’s adorable. I need a new lap quilt. I have several jolly bars from Bonnie and Camille collections. This year has been a difficult year and this simplistic pattern is great. I’ll be joining the sew along. So nice it’s all you need is the book and a jolly bar!

  16. What do you do for the backing? It looks like two different colors. I really like it and want to do my back like that.

  17. I’m looking for Chevrons and Stars with no luck, anybody have any ideas.
