2021 Designer Mystery Block of the Month

We are “berry” excited to present the 2021 Designer Mystery Block of the Month! This has been one of our favorite projects for the past 13 years. This will be the 14th annual Designer Mystery Quilt, and it’s sure to be a surprise.

Can you guess the rest? Here’s a little taste! This year’s quilt finishes at a generous 66.5″ x 84.5″. The Designer Mystery club runs from June 2021 through May 2022, and fabric and patterns for blocks one through twelve will be mailed around the 10th of each month.

Every year, the Designer Mystery quilt is made up of 12 blocks designed by 12 Moda designers and each block measures 12″ x 12″. The great thing about the quilt is that it is perfect for quilters of all levels, so everyone is invited!

This year’s quilt will use fabrics from Strawberries & Rhubarb by Fig Tree & Co. for Moda Fabrics!

What You’ll Need

The 2021 Designer Mystery Quilt is exclusive to the Fat Quarter Shop and you won’t find it anywhere else! It includes the pattern and fabric for the sashing, borders, and binding. Reserve the Backing Set to receive 5.25 yards of this beautiful red rose floral print. Both the Finishing Kit and Backing Set will ship with your first shipment of the Block of the Month. Finishing Your Quilt

After sewing up your blocks that comprise the main part of the quilt, you will need additional fabric to complete the center block, corners, borders, binding and backing. These fabrics are in the Finishing Kit, but if you don’t have one, you may use the Fabric Requirements below to know which fabrics from the Strawberries and Rhubarb collection you’ll need to make your quilt like the pattern.

  1. Dear FQS, I love your designer mysteries. I have made your 2013 Fig Tree baskets, stars and houses, 2016 Lella Boutique with Little Miss Sunshine, 2017 American Jane with Spring-a-Ling, and the 2019 Orchard by April Rosenthal. I have to confess I made 3 variations of the 2013 quilt and 2 of the 2016 quilt. I am currently working on the 2020 Bloomington by Lella Boutique. They were all wonderful and I’m looking forward the the 2021 edition (I love the setting you have designed). Would you consider posting a picture of each of the 13 finished quilts from each year you have done them. I’m sure many would love to see them.
