Snail Trail Quilt Block Video Tutorial Classic & Vintage

Classic & Vintage Series: Snail Trail Quilt Block

Classic & Vintage: Snail TrailHappy Friday, Quilters!  We are ending this wonderful week with another episode of our Classic & Vintage block series on YouTube, the Snail Trail quilt block.  This block has various names, including Monkey Wrench, Ocean Waves, Whirligig, and even Indiana Puzzle, but Snail Trail is the most prevalent name we found.  In any case, the swirling effect of this block can be a doozy.

Snail Trail Quilt BlockThere are many different ways to make this block, especially with paper piecing and templates, but we like simplifying things wherever possible while still keeping accuracy and perfect points.  We tested several different methods and sizes to make this block and wound up with a technique that we are really happy with!  Curious to see how we do it?

Check out the free Snail Trail block pattern here, then hit play!

Now that you’ve got a hang of our technique, are you ready to make a full quilt?  We have this gorgeous Snail Trail quilt kit made with Snowman Gatherings III!  Or simply purchase the Snail Trail PDF pattern and select your own fabrics.

  1. Love the color combination you used for this one, they are kinda relaxing in a way perfect for my sons room. I am planning to make one which is just in time since I have a few more dressmaking fabrics to use.
