Blogger’s Choice: Elizabeth Hartman

Elizabeth Hartman of the popular modern quilting blog, Oh Fransson, has selected twelve prints and three coordinating solids from Fat Quarter Shop to bring you an exclusive Blogger’s Choice Fat Quarter Bundle! Elizabeth is here today to tell you a bit about her blogger approved bundle!

I love the new Camp Modern collection from Birch Fabrics and used several prints from it to build my winter-inspired Blogger’s Choice Fat Quarter Bundle. It includes three of the fabulous faux bois prints, plus a few more (including bears!) from Camp Modern. I’ve also pulled in some tiny deer and other coordinates with pops of orange and bright green. I feel like the orange in particular is a little unusual for winter, but I love having it in the mix.

I took my bundle with me to a sewing weekend with friends, planning to make a wintery quilt, but not yet sure how I was going to go about it. What I ended up with is a stylized interpretation of the trees and mountains surrounding the house where we were staying.

We ended up getting snowed in for an extra night, which allowed me to finish the entire quilt top.

And, we even got to see some real deer on the drive home!

  1. Elizabeth is the best – one of my favorite modedrn quilt designers and lives just over the river….I know she would go for planned and solids, and am guessing a jelly roll would be her choice as well.

  2. layer cake, planned, prints!

I love those colors, LOVE the quilt design! Oh, Fransson! is one of my favorite blogs — I love her style!

  3. Jelly Roll since I've never made a jelly roll quilt yet.

Scrappy since I think that would be perfect for a jelly roll quilt.

Prints since it would liven the quilt up and there can never be too much prints when it comes to a quilt.

Love this selection of fabrics together! πŸ™‚

Thanks for the chance to win this great bundle. πŸ™‚

Hope everyone survived the holiday season. Here's to good health and happiness for 2013.

  6. layer cake, because strips are different widths

planned, because the prints are all from the same collection

prints, because only a few of the fabrics are solids.

  7. Layer cake, planned, solids. This is the perfect collection to make things for the men in my life.
    Thank you.

  8. I think Elizabeth chose
    1) Layer Cake, because the strips in the trees/mountains are not all the same width
    2) Scrappy (though Elizabeth's "scrappy" is always planned more than most people's)
    3) Prints

These fabrics are so fun, and I love the quilt design! I was trying to come up with something for my MIL this year and didn't have quite the right inspiration (or the time). I'd love to riff on this for a gift for her next year. Thank you!
